Plugin maintenance & updates that stop updates breaking your site
We take over the ongoing care of WordPress and WooCommerce plugins, both ones we built and ones you already run: tested updates, compatibility fixes, security patches and monitoring. Plugin maintenance & updates suits businesses whose site earns money and cannot afford surprise breakage after a routine click.

The case for planned plugin care
Software ages even when nobody touches it. WordPress releases new versions, PHP versions reach end of life, WooCommerce changes how orders are stored, and a payment provider retires an API endpoint.
A plugin that worked perfectly last year can start throwing warnings, slowing pages or failing silently this year, and nobody notices until a customer complains.
Most owners fall into one of two habits. Some never update, which leaves known security holes open. Others click update on everything at once, on the live site, on a Friday afternoon. Both habits end in the same place: an emergency call to a developer who has never seen the site. A planned routine costs less than either.
We look after plugins in three situations. Custom plugins we built, where we know the code. Custom plugins someone else built, where we start with a review. And a mixed set of commercial plugins that the site depends on, where our job is to test, update and report on them in the right order.
If you are still choosing how to build a feature, our guide on when to build a custom WordPress plugin includes the maintenance cost most people forget.
Inside a maintenance plan
Plans are tailored to the site, but these are the building blocks.
- Staged update testingPlugin, theme and core updates applied to a clone first, with key journeys checked: forms, checkout, login, search, and admin screens.
- Compatibility monitoringWe track PHP, WordPress and WooCommerce releases and flag changes that affect your code before they hit production.
- Security patchingPriority handling of vulnerability notices for plugins you run, with temporary mitigations if a fix is not yet released.
- Backups and restore testsVerified off-site backups and a test restore at agreed intervals, because an untested backup is only a hope.
- Uptime and error monitoringAlerts for downtime, fatal errors and failing scheduled jobs, with a person who reads them.
- Small fixes and tweaksA bundle of developer time for minor bugs and text or setting changes found in daily use.
- Code health reviewsPeriodic checks of slow queries, deprecated functions and unused plugins that can be removed.
- Monthly reportWhat was updated, what failed, what we fixed and what needs a decision from you.

The monthly cycle
A predictable rhythm is the point. Surprises are what we are paid to remove.
- Onboarding auditWe list every plugin, version, licence and owner, remove what is dead and record how the site is hosted and backed up.
- BaselineWe capture how the site behaves now: key page speeds, error logs and the journeys that must never break.
- Weekly watchSecurity notices and vendor release notes are reviewed, and urgent patches are handled out of cycle.
- Staging roundUpdates are applied to the clone, tested against the baseline, and any conflicts are fixed or the update is held back.
- ReleaseApproved updates go live at a quiet hour with a backup taken first and a rollback ready.
- Report and planYou receive the change log, and we raise anything that needs budget, such as a plugin that is no longer supported.

Maintenance approaches compared
There is no single right answer. This is how the options usually stack up.
Approach | Strength | Weakness |
|---|---|---|
Update yourself | No fees, immediate | No staging, no rollback, risk lands on you |
Host auto-updates | Fast patching | Cannot judge compatibility with custom code |
Hourly developer help | Pay only when needed | Slow response, no one watching in between |
Managed maintenance plan | Planned testing and a named owner | Ongoing cost, needs clear scope |
Rebuild and retire | Removes legacy risk | Largest upfront effort |
Plan cost drivers
We quote after the audit. These are the variables.
Number of plugins and age
A dozen maintained plugins are routine. Dozens of abandoned ones carry real risk and more work.
Custom code volume
Custom plugins need regression tests and developer time when platforms change.
Business criticality
A store taking orders daily needs faster response than a brochure site.
Integrations
Every connection to an outside service adds a point that can fail. See plugin API integration.
Hosting quality
Slow or shared servers add troubleshooting. We advise on moves when hosting is the real limit.
Response expectations
Same-day reaction needs more capacity than next-business-day.
Sites that do not need a plan
Turn on automatic updates for security releases, keep verified backups and review the site every quarter. We will tell you if that is enough.
If it has had no updates for a long period and depends on old PHP features, patching it repeatedly is throwing good effort after bad.
If your main worry is speed rather than stability, start with plugin performance optimization.
And if you suspect a breach, begin with a plugin security and code audit, then move to ongoing care.
Pakistan hosting and delivery realities
A good number of our clients host on shared plans or local servers where PHP versions change without much notice, backups are limited and support hours are short.
We check what your host actually provides, ask for the PHP schedule, and decide whether staging can run on the same server or needs a separate one.
For clients in the USA and UK, we schedule live releases outside their business hours, which fits well with our working day in Lahore.
For clients in Pakistan and the Gulf, releases are timed away from peak trading, such as sale days or the evening rush for food orders.
Sometimes the best maintenance decision is moving to a better server before adding more care on top.
Planned retirement of old plugins
Some are inactive, some duplicate each other, and some come from authors who stopped updating them years ago. Each one is risk without value.
We explain cost and risk for each, and for rebuilds we draw on our WordPress plugin development team.
Proof of care, month by month
It is an unplanned update, an expired licence or a PHP upgrade done by the host without warning.
You can judge the service by what we hand over each month: the list of updates, the tests run, issues found and fixed, plus open risks in plain words.
We promise early detection, a tested way back and a written record.
For hosting-level and site-wide care, our WordPress maintenance and support page covers the broader service, while our WordPress security checklist shows the habits worth adopting yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Can you maintain plugins you did not build?
Yes. We begin with a short review to understand the code and its risks. If it is workable, we maintain it. If it is poor, we explain what a repair or replacement would involve. Our plugin customization services handle changes.
How often should plugins be updated?
Security updates should be reviewed as soon as they are released. Feature updates can follow a monthly cycle with testing. The right rhythm depends on how much your site earns and how many custom features it carries.
Will you update a live site directly?
No. Updates are tested on a staging copy, and live releases happen after a fresh backup, at a quiet time, with a rollback ready. Direct live updates are what cause most outages.
What if an update breaks something anyway?
We roll back from the backup, check what happened and either fix the conflict or hold the update. You get a note explaining the cause. This is why the rollback is prepared before the release, not after.
Do you support WooCommerce stores and custom gateways?
Yes. Stores carry extra risk around checkout and payment code, so we test those journeys on every cycle. Related builds are covered under WooCommerce plugin development.
How do we get started?
Send us the site address, a list of plugins if you have one, and your hosting details through the contact page. We run an audit and propose a plan that fits the site. The plugin development hub shows the other services.
