Odoo module development that bends the system to your workflow, not the other way round
We write custom Odoo modules in Python and XML that add fields, workflows, reports and integrations to the standard apps, for manufacturers, distributors, retailers and service firms that have outgrown configuration alone. It suits teams already on Odoo, or about to be, who need the system to match how work really happens.

- Modules that extend standard apps through inheritance, never by editing them
- Access rights, record rules and reports designed with the module, not added later
- Written for your Odoo version, with a stated path for the next version
The line between standard Odoo and a custom module
Odoo is attractive because the standard apps cover a great deal: sales, purchase, inventory, accounting, manufacturing, HR. Studio, automated actions and configuration can stretch them further.
But every business has a few processes that are its own. A garment exporter tracking lots by wash batch, a pharmacy distributor applying expiry-based picking rules, a school adding fee vouchers to accounting: these are the places where configuration becomes awkward and a small module becomes the honest answer.
A well-built module adds exactly the model, view or rule you need and leaves the rest of Odoo alone. A badly built one copies half of a standard app, hard-codes company names and breaks at the next version. We have seen both, and most of our Odoo work starts with the second kind. Our primer on Odoo custom module development shows what separates them.
We work from Lahore with clients in Pakistan, the Gulf, the UK and North America. Local realities come up often: urban and rural delivery routes, mixed Urdu and English documents, FBR-related invoice fields, and cash-heavy customer bases. We build for these without assuming a European setup, and we check current tax and reporting requirements with your accountant before coding anything that depends on them.
A concrete case helps. A distributor that sells through field salesmen often needs a van-sales screen, per-route cash collection and a daily closing report that ties cash back to invoices. Standard Odoo gives the building blocks, but the exact route and cash logic is yours. That gap is a good module: small in scope, high in daily use, and easy to test with a day of real transactions.
Module deliverables, item by item
Each module is delivered as a complete, installable addon, with the documents your team needs to run it.
- Functional specificationBusiness rules written in plain language, with screens sketched and each user role named. Nothing is coded before you have read and approved it.
- Python models and logicNew models and extensions to existing ones using Odoo's ORM inheritance, with constraints, computed fields and onchange behaviour covered by tests.
- Views and menusForm, list, kanban, search and, where useful, pivot or graph views in XML, plus any web client components for richer screens.
- Security configurationAccess control lists, groups and record rules so salespeople, warehouse staff and accountants see only what they should.
- Reports and documentsQWeb PDF reports and printable documents such as delivery notes, quotations or gate passes in your layout and language.
- Data and migration scriptsDefault data, demo data for testing, and scripts that bring existing records into the new fields.
- Install guide and training notesDependencies, setup steps and a short walkthrough for the people who will use the module daily.

A build sequence that keeps surprises small
Odoo projects go wrong when the model is designed in a hurry. We spend more of the early weeks on design than clients expect.
- Process walk-throughWe sit with the people who do the work, by call or on site by arrangement, and map the process as it is, including the spreadsheet workarounds. You receive a gap list against standard Odoo.
- Fit decisionEach gap is marked as configuration, a Studio change, a small module or not worth building. Often a third of the wish-list drops out here, which saves money.
- Model and security designWe agree data structures, inheritance points, user groups and what each group may do before writing code.
- Development and weekly demosThe module is built on a test database copied from yours. A short demo each week shows real records moving through the flow.
- User acceptance testingYour team runs scripted scenarios and raises defects. We fix, retest and keep a log you can see.
- Go-live and support windowDeployment to Odoo.sh, on-premise or your cloud server, with a defined hypercare period afterwards.
- Training and data checksBefore go-live we load a day of realistic transactions and let your users run them end to end. Surprises found here are cheap to fix and expensive to find later.

Choosing between Studio, configuration and code
The cheapest change is the one you do not need to program. This is the rule of thumb we apply.
Need | Usually best handled by | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Extra field or simple rule on a form | Studio or configuration | Fast, reversible, no developer needed |
Approval chain with conditions | Automated actions or a small module | Depends on how many branches the rule has |
New business object with its own screens | Custom module | Needs a proper model, security and tests |
Integration with a courier, bank or portal | Custom module with API code | Needs retries, logging and error handling |
Heavy changes to accounting or stock valuation | Module, with an accountant involved | Errors here affect the books, so review is mandatory |
Customer-facing portal pages | Module with website controllers | Needs access checks, performance care and a design pass |
Cost drivers, versions and hosting
Quotes depend on the number of models and screens, how deeply the module touches accounting or stock, the volume of data to migrate, and how many outside systems it talks to.
The Odoo version matters because the web client, the available APIs and some module conventions change from one major release to the next.
On Odoo.sh we work through branches and staging builds; on your own server we agree deployment steps, backups and who restarts services.
If the work is part of a larger rollout, our Odoo ERP development team can cover implementation around the module.
Where the same logic would be useful across several ERP systems, or you are comparing Odoo with alternatives, read the comparison of Odoo, ERPNext and custom ERP first.
Someone must test it when Odoo ships a new version, apply security fixes to its dependencies and answer questions when a user hits an odd case.
Include that in your budget from the start, and decide whether your own developer will carry it or whether you want a support arrangement.
Situations where we advise against a module
A short list, because it saves people money.
You have not used standard Odoo yet
Run the standard flows for a few weeks. Teams that skip this usually ask for modules that reproduce features already present.
The process changes every month
Code freezes a process in place. Document it, stabilise it, then automate it.
A community addon exists and is maintained
Read its source and check its version history. Reviewing and adapting a good addon can beat writing a new one, and we will say so.
The real need is a different system
If the business needs a vertical product, such as a hospital system, a purpose-built option like our hospital management system work may suit better than stretching Odoo.
Results measured against the old process
Before building, we record how the task is done now: the number of screens, the spreadsheet steps, the hand-offs, the typical errors your team mentions.
If a promised step has not disappeared, that is a defect we correct.
You get the test results, a changelog per release, and a note of any warning raised by Odoo's logs after deployment.
When the module is part of an ongoing arrangement, it moves under maintenance and support, where we track defects and version compatibility.
For anything that posts journal entries, moves stock or reserves inventory, we ask for a named reviewer on your side, usually the finance or warehouse lead, to approve test results before release.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Which Odoo versions do you build for?
We build for the version you run or plan to run, and we confirm it during scoping. If you are several versions behind, we explain whether to build for the current code or wait for the upgrade, because writing twice is expensive.
Can you customise Odoo Community, not only Enterprise?
Yes. Modules for Community are common and often simpler to host. A few features exist only in Enterprise, and we flag any dependency on them during the fit decision so there are no surprises later.
Will my module break when I upgrade Odoo?
It might, which is why modules should use inheritance and avoid copying standard code. We keep tests and a version note per module and plan the upgrade path in advance. The wider issue is covered in our guide to keeping customisations through platform updates.
Can you connect Odoo to a courier, bank or WhatsApp channel?
Yes, through the provider's API and a module that handles retries, logging and failures. The provider's rules and current terms apply, so we confirm access and limits with them before building. See module API integration for how we approach that work.
Do you work with companies outside Pakistan?
Yes. Clients in the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, the US and elsewhere work with us remotely, with calls in overlapping hours and USD invoicing. Use the contact page to arrange an introductory call.
Who owns the module code?
You do. The addon is delivered with its source, tests and documentation, and you may host or modify it with any developer.
