Magento module development that fits your store and survives the next upgrade
We design, build and test custom Magento 2 modules for merchants whose pricing, checkout, fulfilment or B2B rules no marketplace extension handles cleanly. It suits store owners and agencies who want business logic written once, in the right place, and maintainable by any competent Magento developer later.

The point where a Magento store needs its own code
Most Magento stores begin life on a theme and a stack of marketplace extensions. That is a sensible way to start.
The trouble appears around the third year, when five extensions each override the same checkout class, one of them has not been updated since the last minor release, and nobody can say which one is adding two seconds to the cart page. At that point the question stops being which extension to buy and becomes what the store actually needs to do differently from every other store.
A custom module answers that question with code that belongs to you. It can apply a customer-group price rule that your ERP owns, split an order across two warehouses, validate a Pakistani CNIC or address format before payment, add a wholesale quick-order screen, or push order data to a courier system the moment an invoice is created. The behaviour is specific, so the module is specific, and it carries no unused features that slow every request.
We build modules for merchant teams and for other agencies who need a Magento specialist behind them. Delivery is from our office in Gulberg III, Lahore, with working hours that overlap the UK and UAE fully and the US East Coast in the afternoon. If you are still deciding between buying and building, our note on custom modules versus off-the-shelf extensions sets out the honest trade-offs.
One practical example: a Pakistani wholesaler selling to both retail shoppers and shop owners often needs two price lists, credit limits per buyer and cash on delivery limits by city. Each of those is a small rule on its own, and together they decide whether checkout feels natural to the buyer or turns into a phone call to the sales desk. Writing them as one coherent module keeps the logic visible and testable.
Contents of a finished module package
The code is only part of the handover. These are the items you should expect in the repository before we call a module done.
- Technical specificationA short written brief covering the business rule, edge cases, which admin roles can change settings and what is deliberately out of scope.
- Module code in its own namespaceRegistration, module.xml, dependency declarations, di.xml, declarative schema and data patches, all following Magento's current coding standard.
- Admin configurationSystem configuration fields, ACL resources and, where needed, UI component grids and forms so staff manage the feature without developer help.
- API surfaceREST or GraphQL endpoints through service contracts when another system needs to read or write the data.
- Automated testsUnit tests for the logic and integration tests for anything touching the database, run against the Magento version you actually use.
- Release notes and rollback planWhat changes on deploy, which cache and index tasks to run, and how to disable the module cleanly if something looks wrong.
- Full source ownershipEverything is committed to a repository you control. No licence keys, no obfuscated files, no dependency on us to keep the store running.

Transparent by default
A written scope and milestones before build, code and documentation handed over at the end and hosting or domain accounts kept in your name.
From first call to a module on production
A typical build runs in the same order each time, though the length of each stage depends on how many systems the module touches.
- Discovery and code reviewWe read your current extensions and customisations, list the conflicts and write down exactly what the module must do. You receive a scoped brief and a plain recommendation, including cases where an existing extension is the better choice.
- Design and data modelWe decide where each piece of logic lives: a plugin around a service method, an observer on an event, a new entity with its own table, or a preference as a last resort. Interfaces are agreed before code is written.
- Build on a feature branchDevelopment happens against a copy of your store with realistic catalogue data. You see progress in a staging environment, not a screenshot.
- Testing and reviewAutomated tests run alongside manual passes through the checkout, admin and any integrations. A second developer reviews every merge request.
- Release and monitoringDeployment follows your normal process, with a quiet-hours window if the store trades heavily. We watch logs, queues and order flow for the first days.
- HandoverDocumentation, repository access and a walkthrough call for your team or agency.

The Magento stack we work in
Choices below follow what the store already runs. We do not push a new tool onto a working setup.
Layer | What we use | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
Core | PHP, Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce | Match your exact version so upgrades stay predictable |
Extension points | Plugins, observers, service contracts, DI preferences | Keeps changes outside core files and reversible |
Data | Declarative schema, data patches, MySQL or MariaDB | Clean install and uninstall paths for the module |
Front end | Luma, Hyvä, UI components, Knockout or Alpine as required | Admin and storefront code that matches the theme in use |
Quality | PHPUnit, PHPCS with the Magento standard, static analysis | Catches problems before staging |
Delivery | Git, Composer packages, CI pipeline, staging store | Repeatable releases and an audit trail |
Quote factors for a Magento module
A module that hides a payment method for certain customer groups is a small job.
A module that reads stock from a warehouse system, reserves it across sources and writes back when an order ships is a different project altogether.
What moves the quote is the number of business rules, how many outside systems are involved and how well those systems are documented, the amount of admin interface needed, and whether the store runs Luma, Hyvä or a custom front end.
A store on a current release is quicker to work with than one several versions behind, where we first need to decide whether the module should be written for today's code or the one you will move to.
After scoping you receive a fixed-scope quotation with milestones, paid in USD, and any change to the scope is agreed in writing before work continues.
If the same feature could ship as a distributable add-on for several stores, the work overlaps with Magento extension development, and we will tell you which route suits your goal.
Signs a custom module is the wrong answer
We turn down more small jobs than people expect. A module is not always the cheapest way to reach the result.
A maintained extension already does it
If a well-reviewed extension covers ninety-odd per cent of the need and its vendor ships updates promptly, buy it and configure it. Writing your own is slower and creates a maintenance duty.
The process is not settled yet
Coding a discount or approval workflow the team keeps changing is an expensive way to find out what they want. Run it manually or with configuration first.
The store itself is unstable
If checkout errors, slow queries or an out-of-support version are the real problem, a module adds weight to a shaky base. Start with upgrade and security patching.
The platform is the mismatch
If every feature you need fights Magento's grain, the better conversation may be about the platform. Our comparison of Magento versus Shopify for large catalogs is a fair place to begin.
Proof by acceptance cases and order-flow checks
Proof is behavioural and checkable.
Every module ships with a written list of acceptance cases agreed at the start: this customer group sees this price, this basket triggers this shipping method, this failed API call is retried and logged.
We share error-log summaries, queue health where relevant, and order-flow checks for the first weeks, compared against how the store behaved before.
The goal is boring correctness, which is what you want from checkout code.
Behind this sits more than 18 years of building for web businesses and over 500 websites delivered, which is why we insist on staging, tests and rollback plans even when a deadline is tight.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Do you edit Magento core files?
No. Core edits are overwritten on the next upgrade and make security patching risky. We extend behaviour through plugins, observers, service contracts and dependency injection, so the module can be switched off and the store returns to standard behaviour.
Will the module work with Hyvä or a custom theme?
It can, but it has to be built with that in mind. Backend logic is theme-independent. Anything that renders on the storefront needs a Hyvä-compatible or theme-specific template, which we plan for at the design stage. The Hyvä overview explains why this matters.
Can you take over a module another developer wrote?
Yes, after a code review. We read the module, run it against your version, and tell you plainly whether it is worth keeping, refactoring or replacing. Taking over is often the first step before a longer maintenance and support arrangement.
Do I own the source code?
Yes. You receive the full repository, documentation and Composer configuration. We do not use licence checks or locked files, and any developer you hire later can pick up the work.
How does the module survive Magento upgrades?
By staying on supported extension points and keeping its own tests. When a minor or major release arrives, we run those tests against it first. Our guide on Magento module development best practices covers the habits behind this, and a planned move is handled under module upgrade and migration.
Can you build in Lahore for a client in the UK, UAE or US?
That is how most of our work runs. Scoping happens by video call, progress is shown on a staging store, and invoices are in USD. Tell us your time zone and we agree fixed call windows. You can start the conversation through the contact page.
