Drupal module development that gives editors exactly the tools they need and developers clean code
We build custom Drupal modules for sites where content structure, permissions or integrations go beyond what contributed modules provide: universities, publishers, membership bodies, government-style portals and large corporate sites. It suits teams that already run Drupal, or have chosen it for its flexibility, and want custom behaviour done the Drupal way.

- Services, plugins and event subscribers instead of procedural hooks where the API allows
- Configuration exported to code so staging and production never drift apart
- Access control and editor workflows planned before the first line is written
Reasons a Drupal build outgrows contributed modules
Drupal's strength is structure. Content types, taxonomies, fields, roles, workflows, multilingual support and a mature permission model are available before any custom code exists.
Many sites need nothing beyond them. The need for a module arrives when the structure has to do something unusual: sync content with a student information system, calculate eligibility from three fields, expose a controlled API for a mobile app, or add a custom editorial approval step that matches how a newsroom actually works.
Contributed modules cover a great deal, and checking them first is part of our process. A custom module is justified when the behaviour is particular to your organisation, when the contributed option pulls in a large dependency for a small feature, or when security and long-term support require code you control. We would rather ship a short module that does one job than install a heavy module and configure it for a week.
Our team writes Drupal modules for clients in the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, the USA and Pakistan, working from Gulberg III in Lahore. Bilingual sites with right-to-left Arabic or Urdu are routine for us, and we plan translation, field storage and Twig output with that in mind from the start.
A typical example is a university department site where lecturers publish course pages, an admissions office needs a controlled application form, and a records system must receive the submissions. Each piece sounds small. The module work is in making them agree on who may edit what, what happens when the records system is down, and how a failed submission is retried without asking the applicant to start again.
Deliverables inside every Drupal module
Whatever the feature, the repository you receive follows the same shape, so any Drupal developer can read it.
- Requirements briefThe behaviour, the user roles, the content entities involved and the cases we will not handle, written down and agreed.
- Module scaffold and metadataAn info.yml file with core compatibility, routing, services and permissions files, and a clear dependency list in Composer.
- Custom entities, fields or pluginsContent entities, field types, blocks, form elements or queue workers implemented through the plugin system where Drupal expects them.
- Admin forms and settingsConfiguration forms with schema, validation and permissions, so site managers adjust behaviour without a deployment.
- Twig templates and theme hooksOutput kept in templates that your front-end team can restyle, rather than markup hidden in PHP.
- Update hooks and config exportDatabase updates, post-update functions and exported configuration so deployments across environments are repeatable.
- Tests and coding-standard checksUnit, kernel or functional tests as the feature requires, plus PHPCS with the Drupal standard.
- Handover documentationA readme, an architecture note and a short training session for developers and editors.

Transparent by default
A written scope and milestones before build, code and documentation handed over at the end and hosting or domain accounts kept in your name.
Delivery sequence and what you see at each stage
A Drupal feature moves faster when the content model is settled early. Our sequence puts that first.
- Audit of the existing siteWe review installed modules, custom code, content structure and the Drupal version. You get a list of risks, including any unsupported modules or core versions.
- Content and permission modelBefore code, we agree entities, fields, roles and workflows. Changing these later is expensive, so we test them with sample content.
- Build in a local environmentDevelopment runs in a containerised setup with Composer and Drush, using a sanitised copy of your content.
- Review and automated checksPull requests are reviewed and pass coding-standard and test checks before merging.
- Staging acceptanceEditors and site owners try the feature on staging with real content and give written sign-off.
- Deployment and follow-upRelease through your pipeline or ours, with configuration import, database updates and cache rebuild documented.
- Performance checkWe profile the new code on a copy of your content, looking at cache tags, contexts and database queries, so the feature does not slow down page delivery for anonymous visitors.

Common Drupal module requests and the usual approach
These are the recurring requests, with the approach we normally take.
Request | Typical approach | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
Custom content workflow | Workflows and content moderation plus a small module for rules | Role confusion; write permissions down first |
Integration with an outside system | Service class, queue worker and scheduled sync | Rate limits, failed calls and duplicate records |
Custom REST or JSON output | Resource plugin or controller with access checks | Exposing fields that should stay private |
Special form with validation | Form API with custom elements | Spam and accessibility |
Bulk content processing | Batch API or queue, run through Drush | Memory use on large imports |
Search and filtering tweaks | Search API processors or alter hooks | Index size and re-indexing time |
Budget factors and the version question
The main drivers are the number of entities and permission rules, how many external systems are involved, how much editor-facing interface is needed, whether the site is multilingual, and how thorough testing must be.
A module that handles an application process with payments, approvals and email notifications is a project.
The platform has moved through major releases that changed APIs, and older versions eventually leave security support, so check the current support status before investing in any module for an old site.
We will tell you if the money is better spent on a module upgrade and migration first.
If your project also needs the surrounding site work, see our PHP development services, since Drupal is a PHP application and the skills overlap.
A site on a managed Drupal host with a pipeline needs less setup than one on a single server with manual uploads.
If you are in the second situation, we can add a basic Composer and configuration deployment routine as part of the engagement, which pays for itself the first time something needs rolling back.
Cases where we suggest something other than a custom module
Drupal gives many ways to achieve one result, and not all of them involve writing code.
A contributed module does the job
If a maintained project with a healthy release history fits, we install and configure it. Custom code should be the exception, not the default.
Views and configuration are enough
Many listings, filters and display variations are Views and display modes, not modules.
The site is small and simple
A five-page brochure site rarely needs Drupal at all. A lighter platform such as WordPress may suit better and cost less to run.
The team will not maintain it
A custom module needs an owner. If nobody will apply updates, plan a support arrangement or avoid the build.
The need is a one-off import
A one-time migration of content from another system belongs in the Migrate API with a throwaway module, and it should be deleted afterwards. We do not leave unused code behind.
Proof of quality without invented numbers
You can inspect it: the code passes the Drupal coding standard, tests run in a pipeline, configuration imports cleanly on a fresh install, and the module declares its dependencies honestly.
We run a clean-install test and an update test on every release, so you know that both a new environment and an existing one behave the same.
After launch we report on logged errors, queue health and failed integrations, and we confirm that editors can complete their key tasks without developer help.
That feedback guides the second release.
For related guidance on the broader topic of safe customisation, read how to customise modules safely.
We review access checks on every route, sanitise output in Twig, avoid raw queries and keep secrets out of configuration exports.
Drupal's security team publishes advisories for contributed projects, and we check your module list against them as part of any support arrangement.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Do you build modules for Drupal 10 and 11?
We build for current supported releases and confirm the exact version during scoping. If your site is on an older release, we explain the support position and whether to upgrade before adding features.
Can you extend a site that another agency built?
Yes. We start with a short audit of its modules, custom code and configuration, then advise on risk. Taking on a legacy build is common and usually leads to cleanup work before new features.
How is a Drupal module different from a Magento or Odoo one?
The ideas are similar, extending a platform without editing its core, but the mechanics differ. Drupal uses plugins, services and configuration entities, as you can compare with Magento module development and Odoo module development.
Will editors be able to manage the module themselves?
That is the aim. We build settings forms, permissions and clear labels so editors adjust behaviour through the interface. Developers are only needed for structural changes.
Can you handle multilingual and right-to-left sites?
Yes. Content translation, interface translation and RTL styling are planned from the start. We often work with English, Arabic and Urdu together.
How do we start?
Send a short description of the feature and a link to the site through the contact page. We will propose a scoping call and tell you quickly if a contributed module would serve you better.
