Shopify store migration that keeps your rankings, orders and customers
We handle Shopify store migration for merchants moving from WooCommerce, Magento, OpenCart, PrestaShop, BigCommerce or a custom cart, carrying over products, customers, orders and URLs with a tested redirect plan. It suits stores that have outgrown their platform and cannot afford a traffic drop.

- Every old URL mapped, redirected and checked before the DNS switch
- Products, customers and order history moved with sample checks at each stage
- Rollback plan agreed in writing before launch day
Reasons to move to Shopify, and reasons to wait
Merchants usually come to us for one of three reasons. The current platform needs constant developer attention, the hosting bill and security work keep growing, or the checkout and payment options no longer match what customers expect.
Shopify takes hosting, security patching and checkout infrastructure off your plate, which is a real saving for small teams.
The move itself is where things go wrong. A new theme looks good in a demo, but if old product URLs return errors, if reviews disappear or if customers cannot log in, you lose both rankings and trust. Migration is mostly careful data work and search-engine housekeeping, not design.
We also say when to wait. If your business depends on heavy custom pricing logic, deep ERP coupling or very large catalogues with complex attributes, Shopify may need extra apps or custom development to match. Our comparison of Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento helps you decide before any work begins.
Pakistani merchants add a few local concerns. Many stores take cash on delivery orders and rely on a courier's booking portal, so the shipping and order-status flow has to be rebuilt and tested, not just the catalogue. Product descriptions are often written in a mix of English and Urdu, and character encoding errors in an export can quietly corrupt them. We check both before any import goes near the live store.
Scope of the migration
We agree the list below in writing at the start, so nothing is assumed.
- CatalogueProducts, variants, images, descriptions, categories turned into collections, tags, SKUs and metadata, cleaned as they move.
- CustomersCustomer records and addresses. Passwords cannot usually be transferred between platforms, so we plan a password-reset email for returning shoppers.
- Order historyPast orders imported so customers and your team can still look them up, with status and totals checked against samples.
- Content pagesBlog posts, policy pages, landing pages and menus, with formatting repaired where the old platform used custom blocks.
- URL redirectsA map from every old product, category, blog and page URL to its new address, loaded as redirects and tested.
- SEO carry-overTitles, meta descriptions, image alt text, structured data and canonical tags reviewed and rebuilt on the new theme.
- Payments, shipping and tax settingsGateway setup, shipping zones, courier rates and tax rules configured and test-ordered. See our payment gateway integration page.
- TrackingGA4, Meta Pixel, Google Merchant Center and other tags reinstalled and verified before launch.

Migration timeline in six steps
The order protects your search traffic and gives you checkpoints along the way.
- Audit and inventoryWe crawl the live store, list every URL, export data and note the apps, custom code and integrations that need a Shopify equivalent.
- Plan and platform mappingWe decide which data moves, which is archived and which is rebuilt, and map old features to Shopify features or apps.
- Build on a development storeTheme, settings and apps are set up while your live store keeps trading. Nothing customer-facing changes yet.
- Trial migration and checksWe import a sample, then the full catalogue. You review products, customers and orders against the old store.
- Pre-launch testingTest orders through each payment method, redirect checks, mobile review, speed checks and tag verification.
- Cutover and monitoringDNS and domain switch at a quiet time, then close watching of Search Console crawl errors, orders and redirects for the following weeks.

Common source platforms
How each starting platform tends to behave during a move.
Moving from | What moves cleanly | What needs extra care |
|---|---|---|
WooCommerce | Products, customers, posts | Custom fields, subscription data, plugin-based features |
Magento | Catalogue, customers, orders | Complex attributes, B2B pricing, layered URLs |
OpenCart / PrestaShop | Basic catalogue and customers | Module-specific data, multi-language content |
BigCommerce | Products and customers | Theme features, app data |
Custom PHP or ASP.NET cart | Whatever can be exported | Needs a custom export script and field mapping |
Marketplace-only seller | Product listings | Reviews and orders sit with the marketplace |
Factors behind effort and cost
We quote after the audit. These are the real drivers.
Catalogue size and complexity
Thousands of variants, bundles or custom options need more mapping and more testing than a simple catalogue.
Order and customer history
Importing years of orders takes time and checks. Some stores archive old data instead.
Custom features
Anything the old store did through custom code must be rebuilt, replaced by an app or dropped.
Design work
A like-for-like theme is quicker than a redesign. Redesigning during migration adds risk, so we often separate the two.
Languages and currencies
Urdu and English versions, or several markets, multiply content and testing.
Integrations
ERP, courier, accounting and CRM links each need setup and test orders.
Cases where migration is not the right move
If your current store is slow only because of a heavy theme or bad hosting, moving platforms will not fix the root cause and costs far more than repairing it. If you have a major sale season in the next few weeks, wait.
Stores whose customers pay mainly through bank transfer or cash on delivery should also confirm that their local payment flow works on Shopify before committing.
Our guide to accepting payments on Shopify in Pakistan covers the options.

Proof the move worked
Before launch we keep a signed-off checklist: product counts match, sample orders match, redirects return the right status and every key template passes a mobile check.
After launch we compare Search Console impressions, indexed pages and crawl errors against the pre-migration baseline, and we compare GA4 orders against Shopify's own order records.
What we control is the redirect map, the on-page data and the speed of the new store.
The website redesign checklist to protect your SEO describes the same discipline in more detail.
If you are heading toward enterprise volume, see Shopify Plus development, and for post-launch growth our ecommerce marketing consulting picks up where migration ends.
You receive a shared checklist with each item marked, a short status note at the end of every week and a clear list of decisions we need from you, such as which old pages to retire and which products to drop.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Will I lose my Google rankings if I move to Shopify?
You should not lose them permanently if redirects, titles, content and internal links are carried over properly. A temporary dip while Google reprocesses the site is common, and nobody can rule it out. Good preparation and monitoring keep it small and short.
Can customer passwords be moved?
Generally no, because platforms store passwords in ways that cannot be transferred safely. We import customer accounts and send returning customers an invitation to set a new password.
Do I need to close my old store while you migrate?
No. The new store is built and tested on a development setup while the old one keeps selling. We schedule a short cutover window and sync any orders placed during the final stage.
Can you migrate from Magento to Shopify?
Yes. Magento stores often carry complex attributes and custom modules, so we audit them carefully. If you are instead weighing a move onto Magento 2, see our Magento migration services.
What about my apps and custom features?
We list each one during the audit and decide whether Shopify handles it natively, an app replaces it, custom work is needed or the feature can go. Custom work may involve Shopify app development.
How long will the migration take?
It depends on catalogue size, integrations and design work. A small store with clean data moves much faster than a large store with custom features. We give a milestone timeline after the audit rather than guessing in advance.
