Shopify Plus development for brands that have outgrown the standard plan
Our Shopify Plus development work covers custom checkout and storefront builds, B2B and wholesale setups, multi-store structures, automation and ERP integrations for high-volume merchants. It suits brands with complex operations that need more control than standard Shopify offers.

- Integrations with ERP, OMS and warehouse systems documented end to end
Is Plus the right plan for you
Shopify Plus is the enterprise tier of Shopify, with extra capabilities and higher limits than the standard plans. The exact feature set and commercial terms change, so you should always confirm them with Shopify directly.
Our role is to tell you what you will actually use.
Brands usually move up for operational reasons, not for prestige. They run several storefronts for different countries or brands, sell to both consumers and wholesale buyers, need custom checkout behaviour, or have a team that needs finer permissions and automation. Others hit the practical limits of what apps can do and need development work that standard plans restrict.
If your main problem is slow pages, weak merchandising or thin marketing, Plus will not fix it. We would rather start with Shopify speed optimization or ecommerce marketing consulting than sell you a bigger plan. Our platform comparison helps frame the wider choice.
One more practical point. Many Plus projects are really data projects. If product codes differ between your ERP, your warehouse and your storefront, no checkout customisation will make the store run smoothly. We spend discovery time on SKU rules, units of measure and customer identifiers because fixing them early saves weeks of rework in integration testing.
Plus project types we build most
These are the project types we are most often asked to build.
Checkout customisation
Custom fields, delivery options, payment rules or messaging, built through Shopify's supported checkout extension methods rather than fragile workarounds.
B2B and wholesale
Company accounts, customer-specific catalogues, quantity rules and payment terms, so a dealer network and retail customers share one back end.
Multi-store and multi-market
Separate storefronts or markets for different countries, currencies and languages, with shared product data where it makes sense.
Automation
Workflows for order routing, tagging, fraud review and notifications, using Shopify's automation tools and custom code where they fall short.
ERP and warehouse integration
Two-way sync of stock, orders and fulfilment with systems your operations team already trusts.
Custom storefront builds
Headless or heavily customised storefronts for brands with special design or performance needs, with a frank look at the maintenance cost.

Deliverables in a Plus project
The package is defined per project, but these items appear in most engagements.
- Plan-fit and architecture reviewA written view on what belongs in Shopify, what belongs in apps and what sits in your own systems.
- Technical specificationData flows, integration points, user roles, checkout rules and acceptance criteria, agreed before build.
- Theme and checkout developmentStorefront templates and checkout changes built within Shopify's supported methods, with version control.
- Integration buildsConnectors to ERP, warehouse, CRM, tax or shipping systems, with queue handling and error logs.
- Data migrationCatalogue, customers and orders moved with checks. See Shopify store migration for how we run that stage.
- Staging and QAA staging environment, regression testing across devices, plus test orders through each payment and shipping path.

A delivery plan you can plan around
Large projects fail through unclear ownership more than through technology. Ours is staged.
- DiscoveryWorkshops with operations, finance, marketing and IT to map current processes and pain points, plus an audit of existing apps and code.
- Solution designWe decide what Shopify does natively, what needs apps and what needs custom code, with an effort estimate for each.
- Foundation buildStore structure, markets, B2B setup and base theme, with integrations scaffolded early because they carry the most risk.
- Feature buildCheckout, automation and storefront features built in sprints with demos, so feedback arrives while changes are cheap.
- Testing and parallel runningFull QA, load considerations for peak events and, where possible, a period running alongside the old system.
- Launch and supportControlled go-live, monitoring through the first trading weeks and a defined support arrangement afterward.
Tools and technologies
What typically sits in a Plus project.
Area | Examples | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Storefront | Liquid themes, Shopify's online store tools, headless options | Choose headless only with a clear reason |
Checkout and logic | Checkout extensions, Shopify Functions | Follow the platform's supported methods |
Automation | Shopify Flow plus custom code | Start with Flow, extend where needed |
Integration | REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks, middleware | Queues protect against rate limits |
Back-office systems | ERP, OMS, WMS, accounting tools | Source of truth defined per data type |
Analytics | GA4, server-side tagging, Looker Studio | Orders reconciled against Shopify reports |
Scope, cost drivers and the case against custom code
Cost follows complexity: the number of storefronts and markets, the number of systems to integrate, the amount of checkout and B2B logic, the state of your existing data and how much design work is needed.
We quote after discovery, and we separate the one-off build from the monthly cost of the platform, apps and support so you can see the full picture.
Every custom piece must be maintained as Shopify changes, and enterprise brands underestimate that.
For small, specific gaps, custom Shopify apps are often the cleaner route.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
How do I know if I need Shopify Plus?
You probably need it if you run several storefronts, sell to wholesale and retail customers at once, need checkout changes standard plans do not allow, or require advanced automation and permissions. If none of that applies, a standard plan with good apps is usually enough. Verify current plan features with Shopify.
Can you migrate my store to Plus?
Yes. Moving from a standard Shopify plan is mostly a plan change plus new capabilities to configure. Moving from another platform is a full migration, which we plan carefully to protect SEO and order history.
Do you build headless storefronts?
We can, but we ask why first. Headless gives design and performance freedom at the cost of more code to maintain and some loss of app compatibility. Many brands get what they need from a well-built theme.
Can Plus connect to our ERP?
Yes, through APIs and middleware. The difficulty depends on the ERP's API quality and how clean your product and stock data is. Our API development and integration team handles the connectors.
Will you work with our in-house developers?
Yes. We can lead the build, support your team or review their code. We use version control, pull requests and documentation so work moves between teams without friction.
How is a Plus project priced?
Scope decides it. We quote after discovery based on markets, integrations, checkout logic and design work, and we keep platform fees separate from our development fees. You can request a scoping call through our contact page.
