Shopify Liquid development for features your theme can't do alone
We write and repair Liquid, the template language behind every Shopify theme, to build custom sections, product logic, dynamic content and clean fixes. It suits stores whose needs go beyond settings, and teams who want code that stays maintainable.

- Code reviewed, tested and kept in Git for safe releases
Liquid is where store logic lives
Every Shopify storefront page is assembled by Liquid, an open-source template language created by Shopify. It reads store data, such as products, collections, customers and metafields, and turns it into HTML.
When a store needs something specific, like showing a delivery message by product tag or building a custom comparison table, Liquid is usually where that logic belongs.
Good Liquid is mostly restraint. We keep logic short, avoid heavy loops over large collections, reuse snippets and expose the right settings through section schema, so a marketer can change content without opening code. Bad Liquid does the opposite: nested loops on every page load, copy-pasted blocks and hard-coded text no one can edit.
We bring 18+ years of web development to this work, including PHP and WordPress builds where templating discipline matters just as much. The service suits merchants with developers who need a reviewer, merchants without developers who need a builder, and agencies who need overflow capacity.
Liquid work we deliver
The common requests, each built to be edited from the theme editor where possible.
- Custom sections and blocksNew homepage and landing page components with schema settings, presets and sensible defaults.
- Product page logicConditional content, metafield displays, bundle logic, size guides and variant-driven messages.
- Collection and search enhancementsCustom card layouts, badges, tag-based rules and filters using Shopify's storefront features.
- Dynamic contentContent driven by metafields and metaobjects, so facts live in one place and render in many.
- Cart behaviourCart drawer logic, notes, gift options and progress messages, using Shopify's cart tools.
- Bug fixes and refactoringRepairing broken templates, cleaning leftover app snippets and speeding up slow render paths.
- DocumentationComments, a change log and a short guide, so the code does not depend on us.

From request to released code
Small tasks run through the same short routine as larger ones.
- Understand the outcomeWe ask what the customer should see and why, because the same feature can be built several ways.
- Choose the approachWe check whether a native setting, section or metafield can do it before writing custom code.
- Build on a development themeWork happens in Git and an unpublished theme, tested with realistic data.
- Review and testWe run Theme Check, test edge cases such as empty collections and sold-out variants, and review on phones.
- ReleaseThe change goes live at a calm time with a rollback copy of the previous theme.

Liquid, apps, or something else?
Not every problem should be solved with Liquid. This is how we decide.
Need | Best fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Display extra product facts | Liquid with metafields | Native, fast, no subscription |
Show or hide content by rules | Liquid | Simple conditions, easy to maintain |
Complex backend logic or data sync | Custom app | |
Fully custom front end | Headless | |
Checkout changes | Checkout extensibility tools | Rules depend on plan, so we check current limits |
Tools, standards and constraints
We work with Shopify CLI, Git, Theme Check and the Online Store 2.0 JSON template system, and we use the Section Rendering API and the Ajax cart endpoints where dynamic updates are needed.
It cannot call outside services during page rendering, and checkout is controlled separately from the storefront.
Platform rules change, so we always check current documentation before committing to an approach.
Cost factors and when not to hire us
Effort depends on how many templates are touched, how messy the starting theme is, how clearly the behaviour is specified and how much testing the feature needs. A single section is a small job.
We quote after reviewing the theme and your written request.
In that case, look at store redesign and CRO first.
If the project is a whole bespoke storefront, theme development is the better frame.
Writing Liquid that survives updates
They are maintainability problems: a store owner changes the theme version and loses six custom edits, a freelancer pastes code into a core file and leaves no note, a loop over every product slows the collection page when the catalogue grows.
Custom features live in their own sections or snippets, so they can be moved across themes.
Expensive work is limited with pagination and tag filters, and we avoid repeating the same query on a page.
A tidy base means a new developer, whether ours or yours, can contribute in an hour instead of reverse-engineering for a day.
Examples of work that suits Liquid
Generic examples of what we build, not client claims.
Delivery messaging by tag
Show different delivery or cash on delivery notes depending on product tags, so customers see the right promise.
Fabric or ingredient panels
Pull structured facts from metafields into tidy tabs and comparison tables on product pages.
Collection landing sections
Use metaobjects to drive curated sections, such as a seasonal edit or a size guide hub.
Back-in-stock and low-stock hints
Display availability cues based on inventory data exposed to the storefront.
Bilingual content
Language-aware blocks and fonts where a store serves English and Urdu readers.
Cleanup of legacy code
Remove unused snippets and duplicated scripts left by uninstalled apps.
Working arrangements and communication
You can send a request with screenshots or a short screen recording, we reply with an approach and an estimate, and work starts on approval.
For bigger pieces we use milestones with preview links, and we work in time zones that overlap with Pakistan, the UAE, the UK and the US east coast.
A collaborator account scoped to themes is normally enough, and we remove ourselves from the store when work finishes, unless a support arrangement continues.
Auditable results without invented numbers
We cannot show invented results, but we can show process: pull requests you can read, test notes for each edge case and before-and-after speed checks on the changed pages.
For ongoing upkeep, see Shopify maintenance and support, or talk to us about your Liquid task.
You also get a short list of what we deliberately did not build, and why, so the decision trail is visible for your team and for any future developer who asks.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
What is Liquid in Shopify?
Liquid is the template language Shopify themes use to turn store data into web pages. Developers use it to output products, loop through collections, show conditional content and build sections. It is open source and maintained by Shopify.
Can you add features without installing an app?
Often yes. Display logic, extra product information, custom sections and many cart tweaks can be done in Liquid. Features that need external services or background processing usually need an app.
Will custom Liquid slow down my store?
Careless code can, especially loops over large collections. We keep logic efficient, test render performance and avoid unnecessary scripts, which usually makes stores faster than stacking apps.
Can you fix Liquid errors left by an old developer?
Yes. We audit the theme, find the broken or redundant code, and fix it in a duplicate theme before publishing. We also document what we changed.
Do you work on Shopify Plus stores?
Yes, though Plus has extra tools and checkout options that we confirm against current Shopify documentation. For larger setups see Shopify Plus development.
How do I request a small Liquid task?
Send the store link, a description or screenshot of the result you want and the page it should appear on. We reply with a scope and an estimate before any work starts.
