PHP & MySQL database development for systems that stay fast as data grows
We provide PHP & MySQL database development, meaning we design, repair and optimise the MySQL databases behind PHP applications: schema design, indexing, query tuning, migrations and reporting. It suits businesses whose system has become slow, whose data is messy, or who are about to build something new and want the foundations right.

- Schema and index design reviewed against your real queries
- Safe migrations with backups and rollback plans
- Reports and exports built on clean, trustworthy data
The database decides how the application ages
Screens can be redesigned in a week. A poorly designed database cannot.
Tables that duplicate data, columns that mean different things in different rows, and missing keys all produce slow pages, wrong totals and bugs that return after being fixed. When a PHP system starts to struggle, the cause is more often the database than the PHP.
Our work on this side covers three situations. For a new application, we design the schema before a line of interface code is written. For a working system that has slowed down, we find the queries and structures responsible and fix them with minimal disruption. For a system with unreliable data, we clean, restructure and add the constraints that stop the problem returning.
MySQL and its sibling MariaDB remain the default choice for PHP applications. They are well supported by hosts, familiar to most developers and fully capable of running serious business systems when designed properly.
Signs the database is the bottleneck
Patterns we recognise on the first call.
Pages that slow down over months
Speed was fine at launch and deteriorates as tables grow, a classic missing-index symptom.
Reports that time out
Monthly summaries run at night, fail, or lock other users out.
Numbers that do not agree
Dashboards, invoices and exports show different totals for the same period.
Duplicate records
The same customer or product appears several times with slightly different spellings.
Fear of changes
Nobody dares alter a table because no one knows what depends on it.
Server running hot
High CPU on the database host with modest traffic, often from queries run in loops.
Why trust this team with your build
For PHP & MySQL Database Development, projects live or die on maintainability. Here is what stands behind the delivery.

Common problems and typical fixes
Findings vary by system. These are the usual pairs.
Problem | Usual cause | Typical remedy |
|---|---|---|
Slow list pages | Missing index or unbounded query | Add targeted indexes, paginate properly |
Hundreds of queries per page | Lazy loading in a loop (N+1) | Eager loading or a joined query |
Wrong totals | Duplicated or unconstrained data | Constraints, transactions and a clean-up script |
Locking during reports | Heavy reads on live tables | Summary tables or a read replica |
Failed deployments | Manual schema edits | Migrations in version control |
Garbled Urdu or symbols | Mixed character sets | Convert to utf8mb4 with a tested plan |
Designing a schema that survives change
What is a customer, and can one customer have several branches? Can an order exist without an invoice? What happens to history when a price changes?
We normalise where it protects data integrity and denormalise deliberately where read speed requires it, and we say which is which.
Foreign keys, unique constraints and sensible data types are not decoration: they let the database refuse bad data at the door, instead of relying on every screen to remember the rules.
Money gets exact decimal types, dates get consistent time zone handling, and text columns use utf8mb4 so Urdu, Arabic and emoji survive. Soft deletion, audit columns and status histories are included where the business needs to trace who did what.
On a Pakistani retail or distribution system, this often means modelling cash on delivery, partial payments and returns explicitly, since those are the cases that break naive designs.
Engagement sequence
We measure first, change second.
- BaselineWe capture slow queries, table sizes, server settings and the main user journeys.
- DiagnosisProblems are ranked by impact and risk, with the cheapest wins first.
- Staging rehearsalChanges are tested on a copy of your data, comparing results before and after.
- Production changeBackups are taken, changes applied in a quiet window and results verified.
- MonitoringSlow query logging stays on so regressions are visible.
- HandoverYou receive a written summary of changes, the new schema documentation and maintenance advice.
Safety first when touching live data
Nothing runs without a verified backup and a way back.
Large tables are altered with methods that avoid long locks, and we test the exact scripts on a copy of your data first, since an index that builds in seconds on a small test set can take far longer on the real one.
You should be able to answer an auditor who asks where a number came from.
If your application also needs a stricter structure around it, our PHP web application development and custom PHP development teams build on the improved foundations, and the PHP code audit and optimization service reviews the code that talks to the database.
Scope drivers
Quoted after reviewing the database.
Data volume
Millions of rows require careful online changes. Thousands do not.
Quality of existing data
Dirty data needs cleaning rules agreed with your staff.
Number of dependent applications
Every system reading the database must be checked before a change.
Reporting requirements
Complex reports may call for summary structures.
Hosting arrangement
Shared hosting limits what can be tuned. A VPS gives more control.
Uptime needs
Zero-downtime changes cost more preparation than overnight ones.
Slow sites that are not database problems
Often the cause is oversized images, no caching, a weak host or a plugin loading too much on every page. We check those first, because a few hours of simple fixes beats a restructure.
Our Laravel performance quick wins list shows the kind of thing we check, much of which applies to any PHP stack.
Similarly, if you need a different engine, such as PostgreSQL for specific features or a search engine for text queries, we will say so instead of forcing MySQL to do everything.
Proof of improvement
We record query times and page response before and after, from the same data, and give you both sets. We do not claim universal speed-ups, because they depend on what was wrong.
Bring a description of the problem to the contact page and we will tell you whether it is a database matter.
For framework-specific database layers, see CakePHP development and Yii development.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Can you speed up a slow PHP site without rebuilding it?
Often yes. We start by finding the slowest queries and missing indexes, which can transform response times without touching the interface. If the cause is elsewhere, such as hosting or caching, we say so.
Do you work with MariaDB as well as MySQL?
Yes. For most PHP applications the two are interchangeable, though we check version-specific features before migrating.
Is it safe to change the database of a live system?
It is safe when backups, staging rehearsals and rollback plans are in place. We do not run untested scripts on live data.
Can you clean up and merge duplicate records?
Yes. We agree the matching rules with your team, run the clean-up on a copy first and keep a log so changes can be reviewed or reversed.
Do you build reports and dashboards?
Yes. Reports are designed on clean data and, where needed, on summary tables so they do not slow day-to-day screens. Pair this with PHP API development if other systems need the data.
Should we move to a different database engine?
Rarely. MySQL and MariaDB handle most business workloads well when designed properly. We recommend a change only for a concrete reason, such as a specific feature or a heavy text-search requirement.
