Laravel package development that turns repeated code into a reusable asset
We design, test and document Laravel packages, private or public, so a feature built once can be installed with Composer in every project that needs it. It suits agencies, SaaS teams and vendors who keep copying the same code between applications.

Teams that gain from reusable packages
Every team that builds more than a couple of Laravel apps ends up with the same pieces: a payment wrapper, a notification channel, a multi-tenant helper, a PDF invoice generator, an API client for a courier or accounting tool. When that code lives as copy-pasted folders, each project drifts.
A bug is fixed in one place and lingers in four others.
A package fixes that. The code lives in one repository, has its own tests and version number, and is pulled in through Composer. Projects update on their own schedule, and improvements flow to everyone. For a software house this is a real efficiency gain. For a vendor it can be a product: a paid package sold through your own site, a licensing service or a marketplace listing.
We also build open source packages for companies that want to publish an official SDK or integration for their own API, because developers expect to run composer require rather than read raw endpoint docs. Done well, the package becomes part of your developer relations.
There is also a hiring benefit. A well-packaged internal library gives new developers a clear place to read and contribute, with tests that explain intended behaviour. Knowledge stops living in one senior developer's head.
Package repository and release assets
Whether the package is private or public, these items are standard.
- Package architectureNamespace, service provider, config, migrations, views and facades laid out following Laravel package conventions.
- Public API designA small, stable surface of classes and methods, with contracts so users can swap implementations.
- Automated testsTest suites using PHPUnit or Pest with Orchestra Testbench, run across the PHP and Laravel versions you choose to support.
- Static analysis and styleLarastan and Laravel Pint configured in the repository to keep quality consistent.
- Continuous integrationA pipeline on GitHub Actions or GitLab CI that runs tests on every push.
- DocumentationInstall steps, configuration reference, usage examples and an upgrade guide.
- Versioning and release flowSemantic versioning, changelog and tagged releases, published to Packagist or a private registry.
- Compatibility with sibling workWhere the package powers a module or panel, we align it with Laravel module development.

Transparent by default
A written scope and milestones before build, code and documentation handed over at the end and hosting or domain accounts kept in your name.
Path from idea to tagged release
The riskiest decisions are the early ones about scope and public methods, so we spend time there.
- Extract or define the scopeWe read the existing code or the requirement and decide what belongs in the package and what stays in the application.
- Design the interfaceWe write example usage first, then agree class names, config keys and events before implementation.
- Build with testsCore logic is written with tests alongside, including failure cases and version differences.
- Integrate in a real appWe install the package in a demo or your actual project to catch awkward edges.
- Document and tagDocs, changelog and a first tagged release, with the registry set up for you.
- Support the upgrade pathWhen a new Laravel version arrives we update the compatibility matrix and release a tested version.

Design rules for packages other people install
Good packages have a short install story, sensible defaults and configuration that is optional until needed.
We publish config files only when there is something to configure, avoid global helper functions that clash with the host application and use events and contracts for extension points instead of forcing users to edit vendor code.
We state supported PHP and Laravel versions in composer.json, test them in the pipeline and avoid features that exist only on the newest framework release unless the package requires it.
When something must change in a way that breaks users, we release a new major version with an upgrade guide rather than surprising projects on a routine update.
Distribution options compared
Where the package lives affects cost, control and reach.
Option | Good for | Consider |
|---|---|---|
Private repository | Internal reuse across your projects | Needs access tokens and a registry setup |
Private registry such as Satis or a hosted service | Teams or paying customers | Licensing and billing need design |
Public on Packagist | Open source and developer adoption | You must maintain issues and releases |
Paid package with licence checks | Selling to other developers | Support expectations and refund policy |
Scope and price drivers
We quote after reading the code or requirement. Typical drivers:
Size of the feature
A small helper is a short job. A full billing or multi-tenant package is a product.
Supported versions
Each extra PHP and Laravel version in the matrix adds testing and conditional code.
Public or private
Public packages need stronger docs, examples and issue handling.
Extraction from legacy code
Untangling tightly coupled code takes longer than starting clean.
Frontend assets
Packages that ship views, components or JavaScript need build tooling.
Ongoing maintenance
Some clients want us to keep the package current as Laravel moves.
Code that should stay in the application
If a feature is used in one project and is unlikely to be reused, packaging adds overhead: versioning, tests, a separate repository. A well-organised folder inside the application is cheaper.
If your application is a monolith with unclear boundaries, start by cleaning the domain structure.
Our notes on building a SaaS with Laravel cover how to separate concerns first.
If you only need to adjust someone else's WordPress plugin, the plugin customization services are a better match.
A package built for an imagined second customer often ends up with options nobody uses. We prefer to extract after the second or third real use, when the shared shape is obvious.
Proof by method: quality you can inspect
You can read the repository, run the test suite and check the pipeline status yourself. We hand over the full history, with commits that explain decisions, not a single zipped folder.
Each release notes what changed and how to upgrade.
For projects that need a user interface on top, our Laravel admin panel and dashboard development team builds on the same foundations.
See the full range on our Laravel development services page, or get in touch to discuss your package.
Packages run inside other people's applications, so we avoid hidden network calls, never log secrets and keep third-party dependencies few and well maintained.
Where a package touches payments or personal data, we document what it stores and what the host application remains responsible for.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Is a package different from a Laravel module?
A package is a standalone, installable library. A module is usually a self-contained feature area inside one application. The two overlap, and we sometimes start as a module and extract it later. Our module development page explains the difference in practice.
Can you publish the package under our company name?
Yes. You own the repository and the vendor namespace. We can set up the organisation on GitHub and Packagist, and credit stays with your brand.
Which Laravel versions should a package support?
That is a business choice. Supporting more versions widens your audience but increases testing and code branches. We usually recommend supporting the currently maintained releases and checking the official support policy when you decide.
Can you turn our existing code into a package?
Yes. We review the code, identify hidden dependencies on the host application, and extract it with tests. Expect some refactoring first, since tightly coupled code rarely moves cleanly.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance?
Yes. Many clients ask us to monitor Laravel releases, update the package and triage issues. This is agreed as a separate monthly arrangement.
How is the package licensed and secured?
We help you choose a licence that fits your goal, MIT for open source or a commercial licence for paid products, and we follow secure coding practice, including input validation and careful handling of credentials. Details are agreed in the contract.
