Manufacturing ERP that shows what each order really costs to make
A manufacturing ERP connects purchasing, stores, production, quality and accounts so the factory runs on one set of numbers. We build and configure it for workshops and factories that still plan production on whiteboards, Excel and phone calls, and need to know material use, wastage and margin per order.

- Bills of materials, routings and work orders mapped to your actual process
- Raw material, work-in-progress and finished stock tracked in one place
- Job costing that shows margin per order, not guesses at month end
From whiteboard planning to a single source of numbers
Most small and mid-size factories grow on a mix of tools: a stock register, an Excel costing sheet, a purchase book and a head storekeeper who remembers everything. It works until volume doubles, a key person leaves, or a buyer asks for the exact cost build-up of an order.
Then the same question gets three different answers from purchasing, production and accounts.
A manufacturing ERP replaces that patchwork with a chain of linked records. A sales order triggers a production plan. The plan checks the bill of materials against stock and raises purchase requests for the gap. Issues from the store feed work orders, finished goods flow back into stock, and costs post to the ledger. Nobody retypes anything, and everyone looks at the same figures.
We build for garment makers, packaging units, food processors, furniture and woodwork shops, auto-parts workshops and sports goods exporters, especially around Lahore and Sialkot. If you are also trying to win more orders, our work on marketing for manufacturers and marketing for factories covers the sales side of the same business.
Modules and capabilities in scope
We select only the modules your process needs. A typical build includes some or all of these.
- Bills of materials and routingsMulti-level BOMs, alternate materials, process steps, machines and standard times where you track them.
- Production planningWork orders from sales orders or stock targets, with material availability checks and shop-floor status.
- Purchasing and supplier managementPurchase requests, orders, goods receipt, supplier performance and price history.
- Stores and stock controlRaw materials, work-in-progress and finished goods by location, batch or lot, linked to our inventory and warehouse management system.
- Quality controlInspection points, rejection reasons, rework tracking and batch traceability.
- Job and product costingMaterial, labour and overhead allocation per order, with variance against estimates.
- Subcontracting and job workMaterial sent to outside processors, returned goods and charges tracked against the work order.
- Finance linkPostings to the ledger through the accounting and finance ERP module or your existing accounting tool.
- ReportsProduction status, material consumption, wastage, order profitability and delivery performance.

Implementation plan
Factories cannot stop for a software project, so we phase the work around production.
- Plant walkthroughWe follow one order from enquiry to dispatch, speaking with the storekeeper, supervisors and accounts staff.
- Master dataItems, units, BOMs, suppliers, machines and locations are cleaned and structured. This stage decides how smooth everything else will be.
- Core buildStock, purchasing and work orders go first, tested on staging with real orders from the past.
- Parallel runThe ERP runs next to your existing records for an agreed period so differences can be found and explained.
- Costing and qualityCosting rules, inspection points and reports are switched on once stock numbers are trusted.
- Go-live and supportTraining for each department, a supervised first month and a review of reports with owners.

Costing that survives contact with the shop floor
Standard costs are easy to enter and easy to ignore. Actual costs are honest but need disciplined issues of material and recording of labour time.
An estimate made at quotation, a standard at planning and an actual at completion are three numbers for the same order.
The gap between them tells you whether your quotes are realistic, whether wastage is creeping up and which customers are less profitable than they look. Even a rough version of that comparison beats month-end guesses.
For export orders, we also keep costs by order number, so buyer-specific changes, sampling and rework are visible rather than buried in general overheads.
Build, configure or adopt
We recommend the lightest option that fits. Our Odoo vs ERPNext vs custom ERP comparison covers the trade-offs in depth.
Route | Fits when | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
Configure an open-source ERP | Process is fairly standard | Customisation can pile up |
Custom build | Unusual routings, costing or compliance needs | Higher upfront effort, full control |
Hybrid: standard core plus custom modules | Most of the process is standard, a few parts are not | Needs careful upgrade planning |
Improve spreadsheets first | Very small unit, few products | Hard limit when volume grows |
Plant factors behind price and schedule
We quote after the plant walkthrough. These factors matter most.
Product complexity
Single-level products are simple. Multi-level assemblies with alternates and co-products take more modelling.
Number of locations
Several plants or stores need transfer rules, permissions and consolidated reporting.
Data readiness
Clean item lists and BOMs save weeks. Reconstructing them from memory takes time.
Costing method
Standard, average or actual costing, with overhead allocation, shapes accounting design.
Shop-floor input
Barcode scanning and tablets at workstations need hardware planning and training.
Integrations
Links to accounting, payroll, sales systems or export documentation add testing effort.
Cases where we would not start with an ERP
And if no one in the factory can own the master data, the project will decay after launch.
Our article on ERP implementation mistakes to avoid sets out the other warning signs. We would rather postpone a project than deliver software your floor will not use.
Evidence you can check for yourself
We agree a few measurable baselines before launch: stock count variance, orders delivered on the promised date, material wastage where recorded and the time needed to produce a costing for a new order.
Supervisors who understand why an issue slip matters will enter it. We run short sessions at the plant, in Urdu and English, with real examples from your orders, and leave one-page guides at each workstation.
When physical counts and system records agree within a small, explainable tolerance, everything built on top of them, including costing and purchase planning, becomes dependable.
Our team works from Gulberg III in Lahore with calls scheduled for factory hours, and supports exporters who report to buyers in the UK, UAE and US.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Can the ERP handle our products if we make to order, not to stock?
Yes. Make-to-order flows start from the sales order, check materials, create work orders and track costs against that order. Make-to-stock uses planning targets instead. Many factories run both, and the system can support each product type separately.
Do we need barcode scanners on the shop floor?
Not at the start. Many plants begin with keyboard entry by storekeepers and add barcode or QR scanning later. Scanning improves accuracy and speed, but it needs labelling discipline, so we introduce it once the basic flow is stable.
Can you migrate our existing item and stock data?
Yes. We clean item names and units, rebuild BOMs with your team and load opening stock from a physical count. A sample import is reviewed before the full load.
How does the ERP work with our accountant's software?
It either posts to the built-in accounting module or exports structured entries to your existing accounting tool. We decide which with your accountant, because tax and reporting rules should be confirmed by a qualified professional.
Is Odoo or ERPNext cheaper than a custom manufacturing ERP?
Often in the early stage, yes, because you start with a working base. Long-term cost depends on how much customisation you need and who maintains it. We compare both honestly during scoping.
Can we pilot it in one department first?
Yes, and we recommend it. Stores and purchasing are the usual starting point, followed by production and costing. Phasing reduces disruption and gives staff time to adapt.
