SQL Server database development that makes your application faster and safer
We design, build and tune SQL Server databases for web applications, reporting systems and integrations. It suits businesses whose data has outgrown spreadsheets or a hastily built schema, and teams that need queries, procedures and migrations they can trust.

- Schemas designed around how your data is actually used
- Slow queries found with evidence and fixed at the source
- Scripted, reversible changes instead of risky edits on the live server
The database behind application speed
When an application feels slow, the web server usually gets blamed first. In our experience the cause is more often the database: a missing index, a query that fetches ten thousand rows to show ten, a report that locks the same table users are writing to.
Fixing the front end around those problems only hides them until the next busy day.
SQL Server database development is the work of designing tables, relationships, constraints, indexes, procedures and jobs so that the application behaves correctly and quickly under real load. It also covers the unglamorous parts, such as backups, permissions, environments and the scripts that carry a change from a developer's machine to production without surprises.
We pair this with our ASP.NET Core development, but the service also stands alone. Many clients bring an existing application in PHP, .NET or another stack and ask us only to sort out the data layer.
Situations where a database specialist pays off
These are the calls we receive most.
Pages that time out
Lists and reports take many seconds. We trace the offending queries, read execution plans and fix indexes and joins.
A schema that grew by accident
Duplicated columns, no foreign keys and mystery tables. We document, normalise and migrate in controlled steps.
Reports that disagree
Two screens show different totals for the same period because rules live in several places. We centralise the logic.
A new product needs a clean model
A fresh application deserves a considered design, with room for the features already on your roadmap.
Moving servers or versions
Upgrades, cloud moves or consolidation of several databases, with data checks at every step.
Compliance and access concerns
Who can read customer data, and how do you know? We set roles, auditing and encryption options appropriate to the data.

Transparent by default
A written scope and milestones before build, code and documentation handed over at the end and hosting or domain accounts kept in your name.
Work packages we deliver
Not every project needs all of these. The proposal lists the ones that apply.
- Data model and schema designEntity diagrams, keys, constraints and naming conventions agreed with your team before tables are created.
- T-SQL developmentStored procedures, functions, views and triggers, written for clarity, tested and commented.
- Indexing and query tuningDecisions based on actual query plans and workload, with before-and-after timings on your own data.
- Migration scriptsVersioned, repeatable scripts or EF Core migrations that update databases in order and can be rolled back.
- Data import and cleansingLoading from spreadsheets, legacy databases and CSV exports, with validation reports on what was rejected.
- Reporting layerViews, indexed summaries or SSRS and Power BI models, so heavy reports do not hit transactional tables.
- Security setupLeast-privilege logins, separate application accounts, encrypted connections and sensitive data handling.
- Backup and recovery planBackup schedule, restore test and written steps to follow when something fails.

Design decisions that matter early
Data types are one: dates stored as text, money stored as floating point, identifiers that overflow. Keys are another.
Multi-tenant systems need a decision about how customers are separated: a column on every table, a schema per tenant or a database per tenant. Each has trade-offs for security, backup, reporting and cost, and moving between them later is a project.
If someone will eventually ask who changed a price and when, the answer is far easier to give when the table was designed to keep it.
A database project, phase by phase
The sequence is the same for a new schema or a rescue.
- Review and baselineWe capture the present state: schema, indexes, slow queries, job schedules and backup history. A baseline makes improvements measurable.
- Plan the changesRecommended changes are ranked by value and risk. You approve what goes ahead.
- Develop in a safe copyWork happens on a restored copy, never on live data, with scripts kept in source control.
- Test with realistic dataQueries and procedures are run against production-sized data, since a design that is fine on a hundred rows can fail on a million.
- Deploy with a back-outChanges go live via scripts in a quiet window, with a verified backup and a documented way back.
- Monitor and hand overWe watch the first days under real load and hand over documentation, or continue under ASP.NET maintenance & support.
Tools and technology
SQL Server has a mature toolset, and we use the parts that suit the project.
Area | Tooling | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Engine | SQL Server, Azure SQL Database | On-premise or cloud hosting |
Management | SQL Server Management Studio, Azure Data Studio | Development, plans and administration |
Diagnostics | Query Store, execution plans, DMVs, Extended Events | Finding the real cause of slowness |
Application access | Entity Framework Core, Dapper | Reliable data access from .NET |
Change management | Git, EF migrations or script-based tools | Versioned, repeatable deployments |
Reporting | SSRS, Power BI | Management reports and dashboards |
Common problems we find in existing databases
A short field guide, from many reviews.
Missing or duplicate indexes
Queries scan whole tables, while several near-identical indexes slow every write.
Implicit conversions
Mismatched data types force the engine to convert values row by row, defeating good indexes.
Over-wide tables
Dozens of nullable columns and repeating groups that should be separate related tables.
Cursor-heavy procedures
Row-by-row loops where one set-based statement would be quicker.
No maintenance jobs
Statistics out of date, no integrity checks and backups never restored.
Shared admin logins
Applications connecting as a powerful user, so any injection flaw becomes a disaster.
Factors behind scope and cost
The effort rises with the number of tables and procedures, the volume of data, how much undocumented logic exists, the number of applications connecting to the same database and the amount of downtime you can afford.
Re-modelling a system that fifteen reports and three apps depend on is a project.
That way you pay for knowledge before committing to a larger spend.
Our broader article on SQL Server performance tuning for web apps shows how we think about the first checks.
Honest limits
For small, content-driven sites MySQL or PostgreSQL on cheaper hosting does the job.
If your application is built on Laravel and PHP, Laravel development with MySQL is often the sensible stack.
Adding indexes everywhere slows writes and bloats storage. Every recommendation comes with evidence and a stated trade-off.
You receive timing comparisons from your own queries, the execution plans that explain them and a change log.
Related migrations are handled under ASP.NET migration (framework to core). We work from Gulberg III, Lahore, with overlap into the UK, UAE and US hours.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Do you work with databases we already have?
Yes. Most of our database work is on existing systems. We begin with a read-only review, so nothing changes until you approve the plan.
Can you improve performance without changing the application code?
Often, yes. Indexes, query rewrites inside procedures, statistics and configuration can help a lot. Sometimes the application itself issues inefficient queries, and then a small code change is needed alongside.
Should we use stored procedures or an ORM?
Both have a place. An ORM like Entity Framework Core speeds normal development, while stored procedures or hand-written SQL suit heavy reports and bulk operations. We usually mix them, as a single rule rarely fits a whole system.
Is our data safe during the work?
We work on restored copies, sign NDAs on request, use least-privilege access and keep scripts in source control. Production changes are made in a planned window with a verified backup.
Can you move our database to the cloud?
Yes, to Azure SQL or SQL Server on a virtual machine, depending on features used. Hosting choices are discussed in our article on Azure hosting for ASP.NET.
How do we start?
Describe the problem through the contact page, and tell us the version of SQL Server and the application using it. Related work sits under ASP.NET development services.
