Laravel performance optimization that finds the real bottleneck first
We profile slow Laravel applications, fix the queries, caching, queue and server issues behind them, and prove the change with measurements. It suits teams whose app has become slow, expensive to host or unreliable as users and data grow.

- Measure first: profiling and query logs before any code changes
- Fixes ranked by impact, so you pay for what actually helps
- Before and after evidence on the pages and jobs you care about
Slow is a symptom, so we look for the cause
Performance advice on the internet tends to be a list of tricks: turn on caching, upgrade the server, minify something. Sometimes those help.
More often a Laravel application is slow because of two or three specific things, and everything else is noise. A page runs several hundred queries because relationships are loaded inside a loop. A report scans a table with no index. A job that should run in the background blocks the web request. A server has too little memory for the number of workers it runs.
Our work starts with measurement. We reproduce the slow journeys, record query counts and timings with a profiler, check the server and queue health, and rank problems by how much user time or server load each one costs. Only then do we change anything. If you want the short version of common fixes, see Laravel performance optimization: 10 quick wins, and use this service when quick wins are not enough or when you do not know where to start.
Fast code is also cheaper code. A tuned application often runs happily on the same server that was struggling, which defers a hosting upgrade.
Symptoms we are usually called for
Which of these sounds familiar?
Pages that take seconds to load
Typically database round trips, missing indexes or heavy computation in the request.
Dashboards and reports that time out
Aggregations run live over large tables. Pre-computed summaries or queued exports fix it.
Slow after launching new features
A new relationship or filter multiplied queries. A query diff shows the culprit.
Server cost keeps rising
More CPU and memory added instead of finding why usage grew.
Queues backing up
Jobs too large, too few workers, or a single slow external API holding everything.
Spikes at busy hours
Missing caching, lock contention, or no safe limit on expensive operations.

Areas covered in an optimization engagement
We review these layers in order of likely payoff and report on each.
- Database queriesN+1 problems, missing or unused indexes, unbounded selects, inefficient joins and repeated identical queries.
- Caching strategyRoute, config and view caching, application-level caches for expensive results, and safe invalidation rules.
- Queues and schedulingMoving slow work out of requests, tuning workers and Horizon settings, and splitting giant jobs.
- Application codeHeavy loops, large collections held in memory, serialisation costs and chatty external calls.
- Front-end deliveryAsset bundling, image handling and how much JavaScript the screen really needs.
- Server and PHP configurationOPcache, PHP-FPM workers, web server settings, Redis or database sizing.
- ObservabilitySlow query logging, exception tracking and dashboards so regressions are visible next time.
- Load and stress checksSimulated traffic on key flows to find the breaking point before customers do.

Audit to results in five moves
Most engagements follow the same arc, with the depth scaled to the size of the app.
- Baseline measurementWe agree the journeys and jobs that matter, then record current timings, query counts and resource usage.
- Diagnosis reportYou receive a ranked list of causes with evidence, expected effort and risk for each fix.
- Targeted fixesWe implement in small, reviewable changes with tests, starting with the highest-impact items.
- Re-measurementThe same journeys are measured again so you see exactly what improved and what did not.
- GuardrailsQuery count checks, slow query alerts and a short runbook help your team spot the next regression early.
Quick checks before you spend anything
These cost little and sometimes explain the problem on their own.
Is the app in debug mode on production?
Debug mode slows requests and exposes details. It should be off.
Are config, route and view caches built on deploy?
Without them, every request does avoidable work.
Is OPcache enabled and sized?
PHP recompiles files on each request if it is not.
Is the queue worker running?
Emails and exports may be running inside web requests instead.
Are slow queries logged?
Without a slow query log you are guessing.
Typical findings and their usual remedies
These patterns show up again and again, though each app has its own twist.
Finding | Why it hurts | Usual remedy |
|---|---|---|
N+1 relationship loading | One query per row in a list | Eager loading, or a single aggregated query |
Missing composite index | Filters and sorts scan whole tables | Index matched to the real query shape |
Live aggregates on big tables | Reports recompute every view | Summary tables or cached snapshots |
Slow third-party call in request | User waits on someone else's server | Queue it and update the screen asynchronously |
Too many PHP workers | Memory exhaustion under load | Right-size workers to available memory |
Large payloads | Bandwidth and rendering cost | Pagination, field selection, compression |
Pakistan hosting and connectivity realities
Many applications built for Pakistani users are hosted far from them, or on shared plans that were never meant for application workloads.
We look at what the browser has to download, not only what the server computes.
For marketing pages in the same site, our website speed optimization team handles Core Web Vitals work, and the broader front-end guide is how to speed up your website.
Scope, cost factors and how we price
It gives you the diagnosis and ranked fixes, which you can then implement with us, with your own developers or not at all.
Implementation cost depends on the number and depth of findings, how well covered the code is by tests, whether the database schema needs changes, and how risky the data involved is.
We plan those with you and take backups first.
Tell us about your slow journeys through the contact page, and we will say whether an audit or a direct fix is the sensible start.
Evidence delivered after tuning
We avoid promising a speed-up figure before we have looked. After the work you can inspect these.
Evidence | Format | Use |
|---|---|---|
Baseline and final timings | Side-by-side table per journey | Confirms the gain on your own pages |
Query count per page | Profiler output before and after | Shows the underlying cause was removed |
Server resource trend | Monitoring graphs | Shows headroom regained |
Test suite run | Report in the repository | Confirms behaviour did not change |
Cases that need architecture or hardware instead
A system designed for ten customers that now has five hundred may need a redesign of its tenancy layer, which is covered under multi-tenant applications, or an older framework version upgraded before further tuning pays off.
If queries are tidy and the app is simply busy, a bigger database server is cheaper than weeks of engineering. We tell you which situation you are in.
Once the app is healthy, ongoing monitoring is part of Laravel maintenance and support.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
How do you find why my Laravel app is slow?
We reproduce the slow journeys with a profiler, review query logs, check queue and server metrics, and rank causes by impact. Guessing is avoided because the biggest problem is rarely the one people suspect.
Will optimization change how my application behaves?
It should not. We make small changes backed by tests, compare outputs where practical and release carefully. Schema and index changes on live data are planned with backups.
Can you improve it without moving to a bigger server?
Often, yes, because inefficient queries and missing caching waste capacity. If the application is genuinely busy and already tidy, we will tell you that more hardware is the better spend.
Do you work on apps built by other developers?
Yes. We begin by reading the code and logs, and we explain findings in plain language. Our related guide, why Laravel suits business applications, covers the framework's strengths.
How long does a performance audit take?
A focused audit of a few key journeys is usually short, while a large application with many modules takes longer. We confirm the scope and calendar once we have seen the app and your access setup.
Do you also optimise the website front end?
For Laravel front ends we review assets and delivery as part of the work. For separate marketing sites we refer to our speed optimization service.
