Magento extension development that adds exactly the behaviour your store needs
We design, build and test custom Magento 2 extensions for features that no marketplace module does well, such as special pricing rules, courier and ERP connections, checkout steps and admin tools. It suits merchants who are tired of bending their operations around off-the-shelf plugins.

Custom extension versus marketplace module
The Magento marketplace and third-party vendors offer thousands of modules, and for common needs such as reviews, a blog or a standard payment gateway, buying is usually cheaper and sensible. Custom development earns its cost in a narrower set of cases: when the feature is specific to how your business trades, when two bought modules conflict, or when a module does ninety percent of the job and the remaining part is what matters.
Pakistani and regional merchants meet these gaps often. Examples include a cash on delivery confirmation step handled by WhatsApp, a local courier whose API no vendor supports, a wholesale price list tied to dealer tiers, or an accounting system that needs orders pushed in a particular format. None of these are exotic, but each is hard to find as a ready-made, well-maintained extension.
We build extensions as proper Magento modules: registered through Composer or the app/code structure, using dependency injection, plugins and observers instead of rewriting core classes. That choice is invisible on launch day and decisive two years later, when Magento is upgraded and the module still works.
Typical extensions we build
These are common requests. Yours may combine several or look entirely different.
Pricing and promotion rules
Tiered, customer-group or quantity-based pricing, bundle logic and rules the default cart price rules cannot express.
Shipping and courier connectors
Rate lookup, label creation and tracking updates from courier APIs, plus city-based delivery rules and COD limits.
Payment and checkout steps
Gateway connectors, order confirmation steps, custom fields and validation tailored to how your customers pay.
ERP, CRM and accounting sync
Orders, stock and customers exchanged with your internal systems, the area our Magento third-party integration team covers in depth.
Admin and reporting tools
Grids, bulk actions, import tools and dashboards that save your operations team hours each week.
Catalog and product features
Custom product types, configurators, size guides, attribute-based displays and import or export tooling.

Development workflow
A module is a small software product. We treat it like one, with a written scope, reviews and release steps.
- Requirement sessionWe write down what the extension must do, who uses it, which Magento version and edition you run and what it must not break. You receive a short technical specification.
- Design and architectureWe decide on the module structure, database tables using declarative schema, APIs, configuration options and how it will interact with existing extensions.
- Build in a branchCode is written in a feature branch on a development environment with static analysis and Magento coding standard checks running on each commit.
- TestingUnit and integration tests cover business logic, and we test in staging against checkout, admin and your other modules, including multi-store behaviour if you have it.
- Release and monitoringThe module is deployed using your normal release path, with a rollback plan. We check logs and queues after launch and fix defects found in live use.

Technology and standards
The building blocks we use in Magento 2 extension work.
Area | What we use | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Module structure | registration.php, module.xml, Composer package | Clean install, enable and upgrade behaviour |
Customisation hooks | Plugins, observers, preferences used sparingly | Change behaviour without editing core |
Data layer | Declarative schema, data patches, repositories | Safe upgrades and consistent data access |
APIs | REST, GraphQL, service contracts | Integration with apps, headless frontends and partners |
Admin UI | UI components, system configuration, ACL | Usable settings and permissions for staff |
Quality | PHPUnit, PHPCS with Magento standards, static analysis | Fewer defects and easier code review |
Background work | Cron, message queues | Heavy tasks that must not slow down checkout |
Extension budget and schedule drivers
We never quote a price from a one-line brief, because the difference between a simple admin field and a connector to a courier API is large.
What drives effort is the number of user-facing screens, the number of external systems involved, the quality of their API documentation, the edge cases in your business rules, the need for multi-store or multi-currency behaviour, and how much testing the feature deserves given the money that flows through it.
We often propose a staged approach: a small first release that proves the idea, followed by refinements once real orders show how it behaves.
If a bought extension covers most of the need, we will say so and may suggest a thin custom layer on top instead.
For wider module work beyond Magento stores, our Magento module development page describes how we handle modules as standalone products.
Deliverables at handover
You should never be locked into the developer who wrote the code. This is what you get.
- Complete source codeDelivered through your own repository, with a clear commit history and release tags.
- Technical documentationInstallation steps, configuration options, data structures and an explanation of every plugin or observer.
- Test evidenceAutomated test results and a manual test log for the scenarios agreed in the specification.
- Admin guideShort instructions, with screenshots, for the staff who will use the new settings and screens.
- Upgrade notesWhat to check when you move to a newer Magento version, and which parts depend on other modules.
- Warranty windowA defined period in which we fix defects in agreed functionality at no extra charge.
Situations where custom code is the wrong answer
Writing software is not always the answer, and we say so.
A good extension already exists
If a maintained module meets your need, buying it saves money and reduces risk. We will review candidates for code quality and update history first.
The process is not defined yet
If the business rule changes weekly, the extension will too. Settle the process before encoding it.
The store is on an old Magento version
Building on an unsupported core adds cost to a platform that needs patching first. See Magento upgrade and security patching.
The real problem is speed
Extensions often cause slowness rather than cure it. A review under Magento speed optimization may remove modules instead of adding more.
Delivery from Lahore for stores worldwide
Either way the working pattern is the same.
Courier integrations in Pakistan vary in API quality, so we plan for retries, manual fallbacks and clear error messages when a booking fails.
Cash on delivery adds states to an order that standard Magento does not model, such as confirmed by phone, dispatched, delivered and cash received, and we build those states explicitly instead of faking them with comments.
We are Google Ads and Analytics certified and have run tracking for hundreds of stores, so extensions that touch checkout are built with measurement in mind.
Purchase events, refunds and custom fields flow into GA4 correctly, and our conversion tracking setup team can verify the data after release.
Build, buy or configure
A quick way to decide before any development starts.
Situation | Best route | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Common feature, active vendor | Buy and configure | Cheaper, with updates from the vendor |
Common feature, abandoned vendor | Custom or alternative module | Unmaintained code becomes a security risk |
Business rule unique to you | Custom extension | Nothing off the shelf will match exactly |
Two modules conflict | Small compatibility module | Smaller than rebuilding either one |
Integration with a local courier or ERP | Custom connector | Few vendors support regional systems |
Temporary or experimental idea | Configuration or manual process first | Prove demand before writing code |
Security and data handling in custom code
We validate and escape input, use Magento's form keys and ACL rules for admin actions, keep secrets in environment configuration instead of code, and avoid logging personal or card-related data.
If your business falls under privacy rules in the markets you sell to, we flag where the module stores personal data so your legal adviser can judge it.
Evidence that extension code is sound
We run Magento's coding standard checks, profile database queries the module adds, and compare page and checkout timings with and without it enabled. We keep a changelog and tag each release so you know exactly what is live.
Our read of the best practices for Magento modules is simple: keep modules small, avoid overriding core, make every setting configurable and log errors clearly.
Those habits are why our modules survive version upgrades, and why we are comfortable handing the code to your in-house developers or any other agency at any time.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
How much does Magento extension development cost?
It depends on the number of screens, external systems, business rules and testing needed. We give a written estimate after a requirement session and can split larger features into phases so you can control spend. We do not publish a flat rate because it would mislead more than help.
Will a custom extension survive Magento upgrades?
Modules built with dependency injection, plugins and declarative schema normally upgrade cleanly, though every new Magento release should be tested. We include upgrade notes and can handle compatibility work through maintenance and support.
Do you modify existing third-party extensions?
We prefer to extend them with plugins or a small companion module rather than editing their files, so vendor updates do not erase our changes. If the vendor's code is poor, we may recommend replacing it.
Do I own the code?
Yes, subject to your contract with us. You receive the source in your repository along with documentation. Third-party libraries included in the module keep their own licences.
Can you build for Adobe Commerce and Open Source?
Yes. Most extensions work on both editions, but features that rely on Adobe Commerce only functionality need to be planned for the edition you run. Our Adobe Commerce development page covers those cases.
Can you support a headless or Hyvä storefront with the same extension?
Often yes, by exposing the logic through GraphQL or REST and providing a frontend adapter. Hyvä stores need compatibility work for extensions with frontend output, so we scope that separately.
