ASP.NET Web Forms modernization that keeps the business running while the code moves on
We take legacy ASP.NET Web Forms applications and move them to current .NET in controlled stages, so you stop depending on an aging framework without halting daily operations. It suits companies whose core system still works but is slow to change, hard to hire for and tied to old servers.

- Staged migration so users keep working while modules move over
- Behaviour checked against the old system with side-by-side tests
The Web Forms problem in plain terms
Web Forms was the standard way to build ASP.NET sites for many years. Plenty of those systems still run payroll, inventory, admissions, dispatch and customer accounts.
They do their job, which is exactly why nobody wants to touch them. The trouble is that they are tied to the .NET Framework and Windows hosting, new developers rarely learn the model, and every change is slower and riskier than it should be.
Modernization does not mean throwing the system away. The business rules inside it, the report formats people rely on and the odd exceptions added over ten years are real assets. Our job is to move those assets to a platform you can keep maintaining, and to do it in an order that limits the damage if something goes wrong.
We usually meet three situations. A company has lost the developer who wrote the system. A hosting or security audit has flagged the old stack. Or the owner wants a mobile-friendly interface and new integrations that the existing pages cannot support. Each calls for a different mix of tactics.
Migration routes we compare with you
There is no single right path. We lay out the options with their cost in effort and risk.
Lift and refresh
Stay on .NET Framework, upgrade libraries, fix security gaps and clean up data access. The cheapest step, useful when the system is stable and the goal is buying time.
Strangler approach
Run old and new side by side. New modules are built in ASP.NET Core and take over URL by URL while Web Forms pages fade out. Lowest risk for large systems.
Port to ASP.NET Core with Razor Pages or MVC
Rebuild screens as server-rendered pages while reusing business logic. Works well for form-heavy back-office apps.
Move the interface to Blazor
Convert screens to components, keeping C# skills central. Read about this in our Blazor development service.
Full rebuild
Start fresh when the data model is broken or rules are poorly understood. Highest cost and the one we recommend least often.
Why trust this team with your build
For ASP.NET Web Forms Modernization, projects live or die on maintainability. Here is what stands behind the delivery.
Hands-on experience
500+ websites and web applications delivered over 18+ years for clients in 48 countries, the experience behind your ASP.NET Web Forms Modernization project.
Certified expertise
For ASP.NET Web Forms Modernization, engineering is planned together with SEO, speed and reporting, so what ships is findable, fast and measurable rather than just finished.
Recognised work
Led by Junaid Tariq, a National Level Award Winner in Digital Marketing who also builds WordPress plugins, CRMs and web applications. See the about page.
Transparent by default
A written scope and milestones before build, code and documentation handed over at the end and hosting or domain accounts kept in your name.
Reasons companies decide to move
Old authentication code, unpatched components and servers that cannot be upgraded make audits uncomfortable, and customers or partners abroad increasingly ask about it in due-diligence questionnaires.
When adding one field takes a week because nobody dares touch the page lifecycle, the system is taxing the business every month. Moving to a cleaner structure with tests lets your team ship small changes with confidence.
Developers who know Web Forms well are getting harder to hire, and young developers want current tools.
A modern ASP.NET Core codebase is easier to staff, and for companies in Pakistan competing for engineers, it is easier to retain them too.

Process and rough sequence
The order matters more than the speed. Each stage ends with something you can test.
- Assessment and inventoryWe read the code, database and hosting setup, list pages, reports, scheduled jobs and integrations, and flag dead code and security risks.
- Target designWe agree the destination: runtime version, hosting, interface approach, and what is retired instead of ported.
- Safety netBefore changing anything we capture current behaviour with automated tests, sample data comparisons and screen recordings of key workflows.
- Extract shared logicBusiness rules and data access move into shared libraries that both the old and new applications can call.
- Migrate module by moduleEach module is rebuilt, tested against the old results, released to a small user group and then switched over fully.
- Decommission and documentThe old pages are switched off, servers retired and the new system documented for your team.
Deliverables you can hold us to
Written output at every stage, so knowledge does not sit in anyone's head.
- Application inventoryEvery page, report, job and integration with its owner, usage and migration decision.
- Risk registerSecurity issues, unsupported components, hard-coded settings and single points of failure ranked by impact.
- Migration roadmapModule order, dependencies, release points and rollback plan, agreed before work begins.
- Ported applicationWorking modules in current ASP.NET Core with modern authentication and logging.
- Test suiteAutomated checks that compare new output against the legacy system for reports, calculations and imports.
- Data migration scriptsRepeatable scripts with reconciliation reports, so you can see that nothing went missing.
- Runbook and trainingDeployment steps, monitoring guide and a session for your developers and support staff.
Common legacy pieces and what we do with them
Web Forms systems share a set of features that need particular care.
Legacy element | Typical issue | Modern approach |
|---|---|---|
ViewState and postbacks | Heavy pages, tangled state | Rebuild with Razor Pages, MVC or Blazor components |
Crystal Reports or old report viewers | Unsupported, hard to host | Move to SSRS, Power BI or code-based PDF output |
ASMX and WCF services | Not carried forward in current .NET | Replace with Web API or gRPC endpoints |
Membership provider logins | Weak password storage, no single sign-on | ASP.NET Core Identity or Microsoft Entra ID |
Inline SQL in code-behind | Injection risk, hard to test | Parameterised data layer with Entity Framework Core or Dapper |
Third-party controls | Vendor no longer supports them | Current component suites with a licence review |
Effort, timeline and quote drivers
Size of the database, volume of custom business rules, quality of existing documentation and the number of integrations decide the effort.
That way you are not signing for a large rewrite based on a guess.

Cases where we would not migrate yet
If the system is stable, rarely changes, runs on supported infrastructure and is going to be replaced by a packaged product within a year or two, spend the money on the replacement.
And if the real pain is missing features, adding a modern front end over a cleaned-up service layer might solve it faster than a full port.

Proof by method: showing nothing was lost
For reports and calculations we run the same inputs through old and new code and compare outputs line by line. For data we produce reconciliation counts and totals by table.
Any difference is either fixed or signed off by you as an intended change.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers before you get in touch.
Is ASP.NET Web Forms still supported?
Web Forms on the .NET Framework continues to be supported as part of Windows, but it is not part of modern cross-platform .NET and gets no new features. Check Microsoft's current lifecycle pages for your exact framework version before planning.
Can we migrate gradually while people keep using the system?
Yes, and that is our default approach. Old and new applications can run together behind one address, with traffic moving page by page. Users may barely notice the change.
Will our database have to change?
Not always. Many migrations keep the existing database at first and tidy it later. We recommend changes only when the structure blocks the new design or creates real risk.
How long does a migration take?
It depends on size, rule complexity and how much you need to retain. A small system can take a few months and a large one much longer. The assessment gives a realistic plan, and we avoid promising dates before we have read the code.
What if the original developers are gone and there is no documentation?
That is common. We reconstruct behaviour from the code, the database and by watching staff use the system. Documentation is one of the first things we produce.
Do you work with companies outside Pakistan?
Yes, we support clients in the UK, UAE, USA and elsewhere from Lahore. See our global client page for how remote delivery, calls and contracts work.
