Cold outreach is a skill that can be taught

Cold calling has a bad name because most of it is done badly: a long list, a rushed script and a rep who sounds like they are reading. Buyers hang up, reps feel rejected and the company decides the channel does not work.

In reality, outbound works well in markets where buyers are known, reachable by phone and not served by many competitors, which describes a great deal of B2B trade in Pakistan and the Gulf.

Good outbound starts before the call. Who exactly are we ringing, why would they care this month, and what is the smallest next step we are asking for? A short, specific opener to the right person, with one relevant reason to talk, beats a polished pitch to the wrong one. The goal of a first call is almost never a sale. It is a meeting, a sample request, a quotation request or permission to send something useful.

We combine this with calls, WhatsApp follow-up, email and LinkedIn where they fit, so the prospect meets you in more than one place. For the email side, our cold email outreach service covers sequences and deliverability.

Deliverables inside the programme

We can set this up for your in-house reps or for a dedicated outbound person. The package adapts to who will make the calls.

  • Ideal buyer and list criteriaIndustry, size, location, role and trigger events that make a company worth calling now.
  • Verified target listA built and cleaned list from public sources and your own records, with decision maker names and roles where we can confirm them.
  • Call framework and scriptsOpening lines, discovery questions, a value statement and a clear ask, written as prompts, not a recital.
  • Objection handling sheetThe twelve or so objections you really hear, such as already have a supplier, send a catalogue, call later, with tested replies.
  • Follow-up sequencesWhat to send by WhatsApp or email after a call, and when to ring again.
  • Call review and coachingWeekly listening to recorded calls where lawful and agreed, with specific feedback to each rep.
  • Activity and meeting reportingDials, conversations, meetings booked and quotes requested, tied to the pipeline.

  2. Build the listWe compile a first batch of prospects and check numbers, roles and fit.
  3. Write and rehearseScripts and objection answers are drafted, then role-played with your team until they sound natural.
  4. Run a pilot batchA few days of calls to test openers and learn what prospects actually say.
  5. Adjust and scaleWe rewrite the weak parts, set daily targets and move into the weekly review rhythm.

Variables that change scope and quote

We quote after a call about your market and team.

Who will call

Training your in-house reps is different from setting up and managing a dedicated outbound team.

List difficulty

Well-documented industries are easier to list. Niche manufacturing or export buyers need more research.

Markets and languages

Calls in Urdu, English or Arabic, or across time zones, affect scripts, hours and coaching.

Deal complexity

A simple reorder offer needs a short call. A project sale needs staged conversations.

Support level

From a one-off training and script pack through to weekly coaching across several months.

Compliance needs

Some markets restrict unsolicited calls or recording, which shapes the method.

Settings where cold calling is the wrong tool

If your buyers are consumers in large numbers, cold calling is rarely efficient, and in many countries it is tightly regulated.

Check the current rules in each market before you call.

We will not design programmes that ignore do-not-call registers, consent requirements or recording laws, and we ask you to confirm local rules with a lawyer.

It is also a poor fit when you have no clear offer or no capacity to deliver if it works.

Outbound amplifies whatever you already have. A vague proposition means a hundred polite refusals.

If that sounds familiar, start with pricing and offer strategy or sales strategy consulting.

Finally, if your buyers research online and never take cold calls, inbound methods may do better.

Our B2B lead generation team can compare the routes with you.

Calling into Pakistan, the Gulf and export markets

In Pakistan, a phone call followed by a WhatsApp message is often the normal way to start a business conversation.

Buyers expect to see a catalogue, a company profile and a quotation on their phone within minutes.

We build follow-up around that expectation, with approved PDFs and short voice-note-friendly messages, and we suggest call times that respect prayer times, market hours and Friday patterns.

For export outreach, time zones and trust are the main obstacles.

Calls to the UK, UAE or US need working-hour overlap, and buyers need evidence you are real: a website, references, certifications.

Where export is the focus, our export sales consulting work covers the market selection and buyer proof that sit behind the calls.

We operate from Gulberg III in Lahore and coach teams remotely, with in-person sessions by arrangement.

Writing a call that a busy buyer will stay on

A workable opener has four parts: who you are in a few words, a reason you chose this company, a question that invites a short answer, and an offer of a small next step.

For example, a supplier calling a hotel group might mention a recent expansion, ask how the purchasing team currently handles a category, and offer to send a sample set instead of asking for an order.

Discovery questions matter more than the pitch.

We teach reps to ask about current supplier problems, order patterns, approval steps and timing, and then to stop talking. Objections are treated as information.

A prospect saying they already have a supplier is not a refusal; it is an opening to ask what would make them add a second source.
We also script what not to do: no false urgency, no pretending to be a customer, no recording without permission.

Aggressive tactics might raise short-term meeting counts, but they burn a market where everyone knows everyone.

Roles we usually define

Outbound works best when each person knows their part.

Caller

Makes the first contact, qualifies interest and books the next step.

Closer or account owner

Takes the qualified meeting, handles the quotation and negotiates.

Researcher

Builds and refreshes lists, checks numbers and logs triggers.

Manager

Listens to calls, coaches weekly and protects calling time.

Owner

Joins senior calls where the buyer expects to speak with a principal.

Reporter

Keeps the tracker current so results are never a matter of memory.

Proof by method: judging whether outbound works

We do not quote success rates, because they vary by market, list and offer.

Instead we set measures in advance: connect rate, conversations per hour, meetings booked per hundred conversations, meetings held, quotes requested and deals opened. These are reviewed weekly against your own baseline.

A low connect rate points to list or timing problems.

Many conversations but few meetings points to the opener or the ask. Meetings that do not turn into quotes suggest weak qualification. Each diagnosis leads to a specific change.

The reports link to the pipeline, so meetings can be traced to revenue later.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you get in touch.

Is cold calling still effective for B2B?

In many B2B markets it still works, especially where decision makers are reachable and buyers are not flooded with calls. It works best when combined with a relevant reason to call, a short ask and follow-up on WhatsApp or email. It works badly with generic lists and scripts.

Do you make the calls for us?

Our main service is design and coaching for your team. Where you need a dedicated outbound resource, we can discuss setting one up and managing it, and we will describe exactly who does what in the proposal.

How do you handle compliance?

We design around the rules of the market you call into, including consent, do-not-call lists and recording. Rules change and differ by country, so we ask you to check the current requirements with a legal adviser before launch.

Can this work for a small team?

Yes. A small team with a well-defined buyer and a daily calling block can get further than a larger one with no focus. We keep the system light, with a simple tracker rather than heavy software.

How long until we book meetings?

A pilot batch can show early signals within the first weeks. Results depend on list quality, offer and who answers the phone. We review after the pilot and adjust before scaling. Talk to us via the contact page.

What do you need from us to start?

A description of your best customers, your offer and price positioning, a few example quotations and access to the people who will call. If you also want to see our approach to the broader funnel, read about our sales consultancy services.
