- Check country availability first: Shopping ads depend on the market you target, not only where you live.
- The product feed, not the campaign, decides most of your results.
- Titles, images, prices and stock must match your website exactly.
- Track delivered orders, especially if you sell on cash on delivery.
Read this before you build anything
Google Shopping ads are the product listings with photo, price and store name that appear above or beside normal search results. They come from a product feed stored in Google Merchant Center, not from keywords you write. Google matches the product data to the search, so the quality of the data is the quality of the campaign.
Availability comes first. Shopping ads and free product listings run only in countries where Google supports the program, and the supported list changes over time. If you sell to buyers inside Pakistan, check the current Merchant Center help pages for whether your target country and currency are supported before you invest hours in feeds. If Pakistan is not an option for your targeting, you can still use Search campaigns, Meta catalog ads and marketplaces for local buyers. Pakistani stores that export to the USA, UK, UAE or other supported markets can use Shopping for those customers.
Everything below applies once your target market is confirmed. For a store that wants managed help, see our Google Shopping ads management service.
The setup, in the order that avoids rework
Follow this sequence and most approval problems never appear.
- Prepare the websiteShow clear contact details, delivery and return policies, accurate prices and a working checkout over a secure connection. Google reviews the site as well as the feed.
- Create the Merchant Center accountAdd business information, verify and claim your website URL, and set the target country. Use a Google account the business will keep for years.
- Build the product feedExport from your store or a spreadsheet with required fields: ID, title, description, link, image link, price, availability and, where it applies, brand and GTIN.
- Add shipping, tax and returnsSet delivery speed and cost by region, and configure returns. Wrong shipping data is a common cause of disapprovals.
- Fix diagnosticsMerchant Center lists issues by product. Resolve missing attributes, mismatched prices and policy warnings before spending anything.
- Link to Google AdsConnect the accounts, then create a Shopping or Performance Max campaign and choose the feed.
- Set up conversion trackingRecord purchases with the right value, and for WhatsApp or phone orders add click events. See our lesson on conversion tracking in Google Ads.
Feed fields that matter most
A good feed answers the searcher before they click.
Field | What to enter | Common error |
|---|---|---|
Title | Brand, product type, key attributes such as size or colour | Generic titles like Item 123 |
Price | Current price that matches the product page | Page price differs from feed |
Availability | In stock or out of stock, kept current | Selling items that are sold out |
Image | Clear photo on a plain background, no watermarks or promotional text | Logos, overlays and blurry shots |
Product type and category | Your own taxonomy and Google's category | Skipping the category |
GTIN and brand | Barcode where one exists, real brand name | Invented identifiers |
Custom labels | Margin, season, best sellers | Left empty |
Writing titles and images that win the click
Shopping results show a small photo, a title and a price, and the customer decides in a second. Put the most searched words early in the title: brand, product type, then size, colour, material or model. A women's lawn suit title that says unstitched three-piece embroidered lawn, followed by the brand, tells the buyer more than a name from your catalogue.
Photography needs to be honest and clear. Use a plain background, a single product and a consistent crop. Do not add promotional text or watermarks to the main image, as this can trigger disapprovals. Check the current image policy before you process an entire catalogue.
Do not stuff titles with every keyword you can think of. Google can read overlong titles as a quality problem, and customers read them as spam. If your catalogue is large, an agency or script can template titles by category. For product feeds on a custom stack, our PHP ecommerce development team can build an automatic feed export.
Choosing between Shopping and Performance Max
Both can use the same feed. The choice is about control and reach.
Standard Shopping
Gives you more control by product group and bid, and clearer reporting. A good first campaign for stores with a small, focused catalogue.
Performance Max with a feed
Runs your products across Shopping, YouTube, Display and more. Requires clean conversion data and a willingness to let automation steer.
Free product listings
Appear in the Shopping tab at no ad cost once the feed is approved. Worth switching on at the start.
A mix
Many stores run Search for brand and proven products, plus one feed campaign. Our post on search ads versus Performance Max explains the trade-offs.
Structuring the account once the feed is live
With standard Shopping, group products by what you want to treat differently: brand, category, margin band or best-seller status. Custom labels in the feed make this easy, so a high-margin line can receive a stronger bid than a clearance line. Performance Max can use the same labels to separate asset groups. Resist the urge to split everything into dozens of campaigns. Too many small campaigns starve each other of data, particularly on modest budgets.
Decide how you will protect brand searches. If shoppers type your store name, Search and free listings usually capture them cheaply, and you do not want a feed campaign taking credit and spending more than needed. Review the search terms or channel reports each month and adjust.
Seasonal events matter in Pakistan: Eid, wedding season, summer lawn launches and winter collections shift demand quickly. Update feed titles, prices and availability ahead of those peaks, and make sure delivery promises still hold when couriers are busy.
Pakistan-specific realities for store owners
Cash on delivery is how many Pakistani customers still prefer to pay, which affects measurement. An order placed is not revenue until it is delivered and accepted. Mark cancelled and returned orders in your reporting and compare them to what Google Ads shows. Otherwise the campaign may favour products that attract casual orders and get refused at the door.
If you sell abroad, think about shipping and returns carefully. International customers expect clear delivery times, tracking and a return policy they can read. A courier arrangement that works for Lahore does not automatically work for London or Dubai. Make sure the shipping settings in Merchant Center reflect what you will really deliver.
Payments and platform choice matter as well. Shopify, WooCommerce and custom stores each have their own feed tools, and our posts on accepting payments on Shopify in Pakistan and the broader marketing for ecommerce stores page look at the surrounding setup.
Pre-launch checks
Run through these on the day you switch the campaign on.
- Feed approvedMost products show as approved and none are blocked by a store-wide policy.
- Prices and stock syncChange a price on the site and confirm the feed updates on schedule.
- Conversion tracking testedPlace a test order and check it appears once with the right value.
- Negative keywords in placeIf you use standard Shopping, add terms such as free, used or jobs that do not fit your products.
- Landing pages load fast on mobileTest the product page on a normal phone connection. Our website speed optimization service fixes common slowdowns.
- Reporting set upTrack revenue, delivered orders and returns separately from clicks.
Mistakes that waste Shopping budgets
We see these repeatedly in new accounts.
Launching on a messy feed
Poor titles and missing attributes mean products rarely show for the right searches.
Bidding the same on everything
Best sellers and slow items need different treatment, which custom labels make possible.
Ignoring margin
A product that sells well but earns little profit can drain the budget.
Mismatched prices
Disapprovals and suspended accounts often come from feed and page disagreement.
No review of search terms
Even with automation, check what queries trigger ads and block the irrelevant ones.
Forgetting product reviews and trust signals
Visible reviews, policies and contact details lift conversion.

Junaid's take
In my experience, owners spend ninety percent of their attention on the ad campaign and almost none on the feed, which is the wrong way round. I have seen decent campaigns fail because every title read like an internal code. A tidy feed is slow, dull work and it is where results come from.
My advice is to start with a small set of products you are happy to sell more of, get those right, and expand once they work. Confirm market availability first, measure delivered orders and keep Search running for your brand.
