SEO academy: straight answers to what business owners really ask

This SEO academy collects the questions we hear most from owners and marketing managers, and answers each one in plain language with the reasoning behind it. Use it to diagnose a problem, check an agency's advice or decide what to do next on your own website.

Where to start if you are new to SEO

Search engine optimisation is the work of making your website easy for Google to understand and worth recommending to people searching for what you sell. That sounds simple, and the basics are.

The trouble comes from the volume of conflicting advice, a good share of it written by people selling links, tools or retainers.

If you have no idea where your website stands, begin with a question about measurement, not tactics. Are you tracking visits, enquiries and calls? Is Search Console connected? Without those, every other lesson here is guesswork. Once the numbers exist, choose the lesson that matches your actual symptom, such as lost traffic, no rankings or an agency report you do not trust.

The lessons are short on purpose. Each opens with the answer, adds the reasoning and lists the mistakes we see repeatedly. They are written by a team with more than 18 years in the field, and they avoid promises that nobody can keep.

The eight lessons, grouped by what you are trying to fix

The library is small by design. These are the questions that come up in nearly every first call.

Diagnosing problems

Start with why website traffic suddenly drops, then read how to recover from a Google penalty if the cause looks serious.

Planning what to write

Learn how to find the right keywords and whether article length matters in the ideal word count for an SEO blog post.

Keeping content fresh

See how often to update website content so you refresh pages that matter and leave the rest.

Trust and authority

Understand what E-E-A-T is, whether backlinks still matter and how to read a good domain authority score.

Common symptoms and the lesson that fits

If you can describe the symptom, you can usually find the right page in under a minute.

Visits fell and nobody changed anything
Tracking, indexing or an update

Search Console shows a manual action
Policy violation
Google penalty recovery lesson

Wrong search terms or weak pages

An agency promises to raise your authority score
Metric confusion
Domain authority lesson
Competitors have links and you have none

Backlinks lesson
Old posts have not been touched for years
Content decay
Content update lesson

How to use the lessons without getting lost

Pick one lesson, apply one change and measure it before opening the next.

The most common failure we see is a business reading five guides in a weekend and changing everything on the site at once.

Then nobody can tell what helped, and a mistake in the middle is hard to trace.
Keep Search Console and GA4 open as you read.

Each lesson names a report or a check. Running it on your own data takes a few minutes and turns general advice into a decision about your own pages.

Questions to ask your own provider

The lessons also work as a checklist for conversations with an agency or freelancer.

Ask how they will report progress before rankings move, which pages they plan to change in the first month and how they earn links.

If an answer sounds like a slogan, ask again for a specific example.
Ask what happens if results lag, and what they would stop doing. Good providers answer plainly.

What good SEO advice sounds like

Use this list to judge anything you read, including our own pages.

  • It admits uncertaintyHonest answers say what is known, what is tested and what is a guess. Nobody outside Google can promise a position.
  • It names a way to checkSearch Console, GA4, a site crawl or a plain comparison with competitors. Advice you cannot verify is opinion.
  • It starts with the userPages exist to answer a real search. Tactics that ignore the reader tend to age badly.
  • It separates cause from symptomA drop in rankings is a symptom. The cause might be speed, intent, indexing or a competitor.
  • It does not sell a shortcutCheap links, automated content and metric boosting are repeated warning signs.
  • It fits your marketA clinic in Lahore, a store in Karachi and an exporter in Sialkot need different plans.

When reading is not enough

Lessons help you decide.

They do not crawl your website, read your Search Console data or know your sales process.

If a lesson here points to a larger job, a technical audit, a link plan or a rewrite of weak pages, our SEO agency services cover the full range, from SEO audit services to on-page optimisation.

Our SEO blog goes deeper on strategy and comparison.

Straight answers before you get in touch.

Which SEO lesson should I read first?

Read the one that matches your symptom. If you are unsure, begin with the keyword lesson, because choosing the right searches shapes everything else. Then check your tracking so you can see whether changes help.

Are these lessons suitable for beginners?

Yes. They avoid jargon where possible and explain terms the first time they appear. Experienced marketers also use them to sanity-check an agency's report.

How up to date is the advice?

Search engines change, so each lesson sticks to principles that hold over time and tells you to check current guidelines for anything that moves quickly. Where a specific tool or policy matters, we point to the source.
