- Use your real business name, the right category and complete contact details.
- Manage access through roles in Meta Business settings, never by sharing a password.
- Turn on two-step login for every admin to protect the Page.
- Connect your Page to Instagram, WhatsApp and your website after the basics are in place.
Why the first setup decides so much later
A Facebook Business Page is the public face of your company on Meta. It is also the identity your ads run under, the place customers send messages and the account Meta ties to your pixel, catalogue and Instagram connection. Getting the setup wrong creates problems that surface months later: ads that cannot run, owners locked out, duplicate Pages and confused customers.
The most common mistake is rushing. People create a Page in a minute, add a name and a photo, and leave everything else blank. Others use a personal profile as a business, which is against Meta's rules and limits what you can do. A little care in the first hour saves a great deal of cleanup.
Creating the Page, step by step
Menu names change, so use these as a guide and follow what you see on screen.
- Log in with your own accountUse your personal Facebook profile, which stays private. Pages do not reveal who admins them unless you choose to show it.
- Start a new PageFind the Pages option in the menu and choose to create a Page. Enter your exact business name, as it appears on your signage and website.
- Choose categories carefullyPick up to the most accurate categories for what you do. A precise category helps people and search understand you.
- Write a clear descriptionState what you do, who you serve and where, in plain words. Avoid keyword stuffing.
- Add contact details and hoursInclude phone, WhatsApp, email, website, address and opening hours. Match them to your Google profile and website.
- Upload a profile and cover imageUse your logo as the profile image and a clear photo or banner as the cover. Check how both appear on mobile.
- Add a call to action buttonChoose the action you want, such as send message, call or book now, and test it yourself.
Page elements and why each one counts
Complete these before you invite anyone to like the Page.
Element | What to enter | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
Name | Exact legal or trading name | Customers need to recognise you |
Username | Short, matching your brand | Cleaner link and easier to remember |
Category | Most specific fit | Affects how the Page is understood and shown |
About section | Services, area served, differentiators | Answers the first questions buyers have |
Contact details | Phone, WhatsApp, email, address | Removes friction for enquiries |
Hours and location | Real, current hours | Prevents wasted visits and complaints |
Website link | Main site or key landing page | Sends interested visitors somewhere useful |
Roles, access and security
Control who can do what. In Meta Business settings you can give team members, agencies and freelancers specific permissions on a Page without sharing a password. Give people the lowest level that lets them do their job, and remove access when someone leaves. Keep at least two trusted full-control admins, so one lost phone or one departing employee cannot lock you out.
Turn on two-step login for every admin. Compromised accounts are a leading cause of lost Pages, and recovery can be slow. Use a verified business email, avoid reusing passwords, and be suspicious of messages claiming your Page will be removed unless you click a link, a common phishing trick.
If you plan to run ads, set up a Meta Business portfolio now and add your Page, Instagram account, ad account and domain in one place. Our Meta Pixel and Conversions API setup service assumes this structure is in place, and it makes agency handover far simpler.
Messaging, automation and the inbox
Customers will message the Page, so prepare for it. Set a greeting that tells people what to expect, add saved replies for common questions such as price ranges you are happy to share, opening hours and delivery areas, and set an away message for out-of-hours. Keep automation light: a robotic bot that traps people in menus frustrates buyers, especially in markets where a quick human reply on WhatsApp is the norm.
Decide where conversations should end up. Many Pakistani businesses close sales on WhatsApp, so link your WhatsApp number to the Page and make the call-to-action button match. Use Meta Business Suite to see Facebook and Instagram messages in one inbox, and agree who is responsible for each shift.
Finally, check privacy basics. If you collect names or phone numbers through forms or messages, say what you will do with them, and keep a privacy policy on your website. Rules differ by country, so check what applies to the markets you serve.

Setup mistakes we fix most often
None of these is hard to avoid when you know them.
A personal profile used as a business
Convert or migrate to a proper Page. Check Meta's current rules and options.
Duplicate Pages
Merge or remove duplicates so reviews and followers are not split.
Wrong or vague category
Revise it to the closest, most specific option.
Single admin with no backup
Add a second full-control admin you trust.
Outdated contact details
Missed calls and wrong addresses cost customers.
Ignoring Instagram and WhatsApp links
Connect them so ads and messages flow into one inbox.
After the setup: what to do in the first month
With the Page ready, start earning trust. Share a few posts that show real work, ask recent customers for recommendations using the routine in how to get more Facebook reviews, and set a posting rhythm informed by the best time to post on Facebook. If your audience would enjoy a community, consider a Facebook Group.
Once the basics work, advertising amplifies them. Our Meta ads management team can connect your Page to campaigns and tracking, and you can request a Page checkup if you suspect something was missed. The rest of the lessons live in the Facebook marketing academy.
